Congrats to Parminder for making it as our Freelance Sub Editor

.
I got 20 replies to the exercise that I sent and I finally shortlisted and called 4. Why did Parminder make it? His was the most succinctly done work, to the point and done keeping in mind the guidelines I had sent completely. The other people I called, were either very likely to head to a b-school soon, or could have made it had Parminder refused.
But overall, the enthusiastic response from 20 people was amazing.
I guess I owe some feedback to the others who must have put in at least an hour in the exercise. Here are some points where they could have done better.
- I had clearly mentioned that while editing a press release, we have to distance ourselves from all the self-praise the b-schools put in about themselves. It's important because we have not had a chance to verify the 'facts' sent in the press release and certain adjectives used are debatable. For example - to call the placements 'landmark' or 'unprecedented' or 'powerful' or 'soaring' is to attach a laudatory adjective to something we haven't verified. Also, to say things like the b-school "is all set to enjoy a landmark placement season this year as well" is not something that we should be saying. Nor should we say things like "Established in 19xx, XYZ boasts of a scorching growth through its 12 years of existence."
Why not? Because we're not doing any PR for b-schools. We just have to present the facts given to us honestly and mercilessly and leave it to the people to attach favorable / unfavorable adjectives. - If at all there are 'judgemental' adjectives about the b-school and its placements in the press release that you could not miss, always put it in quotes and say that the XYZ B-school spokesperson said so. The point is, we are not giving anybody any credit based on second hand information.
- I saw a lot of grammatical mistakes, especially in the use of it's and its. Might sound like an itsy-bitsy issue
, but you guys might want to work on correcting this if you're trying to crack the verbal section of any top entrance exam. It's not too tough to see its importance
.
However, I could see that most of you had put in a lot of hard work before sending me the articles and whenever there's a new freelancing opportunity, which will be very soon, I will touch upon the people in this bunch of 20 before I ask anyone else.
Cheers and congrats to Parminder!
