The Renault car looks weird with the fin sort of thing over the engine. Nonetheless, looks like the car is definitely better.

Kimi and Alonso on the row 1. Cant wait for the 5 lights to go out tomorrow!

Alonso's home grand prix...hope we see something special

Re: [2008]F1 Season - 26-04-2008, 09:41 PM

kimi....on pole position.....

well it is truly turning out to be a ferrari dominated season again....
massa turned out some scorching qualifiers....in Q2 ...
it was simply stunning performance to be at one time being almost out of top 10 for Q3
and den with a precision of 1 second just abt making it...and man what a way to make it giving the best lap timings of that time....!!!

as already said alonso was running light but still i thnk it was a gud performance frm him..really feel he deserved a gud car this season..hamilton lost out due to some lack in pace or fuel load,i dont knw...

bt massa must be truly dissapointed as he almost had the pole position...

and we also know a fact that the last six races in barcelona hv been won frm pole...

Ferrari takes the lead in constructors and kimi extends his lead in drivers championship lead.

Webber was my star of the day with 5th position.

Sad for FA and esp kovalanien.

Honda and force india did well to finish around top 10.:satisfie:

Yipee Kimi on top of the roost with 29 points. The Ice man is really burning some hot rubber this season.

Looks like Massa too is getting in the groove.

A disappointing race of Kovaleinen, hope he is not seriously injured.

Feeling sorry for The Spanish boy Fernando Alonso. His luck seems to have run him out.

Re: [2008]F1 Season - 27-04-2008, 08:22 PM

So that's a new record of 8 consecutive wins for pole-sitter at Cataluyna. It's turning out to be worse than Monaco even!

The good things about the race, in my opinion:

1. V.V.Surprising to see the pace of Renault. I had thought Alonso was extremely light at qualifying yesterday but he pitted only 3 laps before Massa so basically it was an astounding performance by him at quali. Renault have obviously made up ground in the testing before the European leg. Both Renaults were running strongly but Piquet made an error and then had ill-luck and Alonso's engine packed up so unfortunately we didn't get to see really how close they are to the front runners. Still I'd say they're well in the mix with the middle runners now, at par with the Red Bulls, Hondas and Toyotas (who've fallen off a bit after Barcelona testing on today's account).

2. Mclaren and BMW too have covered ground at Barcelona testing over the last two weeks though they're still some bit short of the Ferrari. Heiki's crash was scary but thankfully he's ok, no broken bones and all, and should be able to race in 2 weeks time. Solid enough race by Hamilton and Kubica and I think Mclaren and BMW will give much more of a fight at Turkey.

3. The top 4 actually finished quite close to each other but that's an illussion - the two long SC periods meant that Hamilton and Kubica's speed in comparison to the Ferrari's was made to look more flattering than it actually was. Had it not been for the SC, the difference would've been more like 10-15 seconds.

4. Absolutely perfect display by Raikonnen - Pole, Fastest lap, Winner. It's already getting boring between him and Massa. The decisive one is going to be next race - Turkey's where Massa's been very strong in the past and if Raikonnen can win there as well, in what is a Massa stronghold, then I think Ferrari may as well call off the competition between the two and give Massa the tailgunner role.

5. Special mention to a consistent Webber but more so to Button's performance who helped Honda to their first points of the season...an improvement that has Ross Brawn written all over it - they can only go uphill with his experience so look out for them for the rest of the season.

All in all, this race went as expected but the good thing is the gap has been reduced between Ferrari and BMW/Mclaren, and some of the middle-runners have also showed definite improvement so looking forward to a more competitive European leg!

This was probably the most boring of the 4 races this season. Not much overtaking up the field. Most of them seemed happy to settle down to a rhythm and follow the car in front.

Looks like Ferrari is definitely back to full state of preparedness and the car rocks! Its too early in the season to predict anything, but looks like this one will not go down to the wire like last year. Kimi looks all set for a consecutive world championship:hurray:

SUPER AGURI WITHDRAWS FROM FIA>>>

Following weeks of speculation concerning the future of the team, Super Aguri announced Tuesday that they are to withdraw from the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship with immediate effect.

Super Aguri, founded by former driver Aguri Suzuki, had been participating in Formula One racing since the 2006 season. The Japanese team, who scored their first championship points after only 22 races (Spanish Grand Prix, 2007) and finished ninth in the 2007 constructors’ championship, will cease all activities as of May 6, 2008.

The Honda-powered team, whose driver line-up comprised Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson, ran into financial difficulties last year, and completed little winter testing ahead of the 2008 season as a result. A planned buyout by the Magma Group looked set to save the team until that fell through last month, and only last week Suzuki expressed optimism about a new deal with German automotive company Weigl.

Explaining his decision to withdraw from Formula One racing, Aguri Suzuki released the following statement:

“In order to realize my dream to become an owner of a Formula One Team, I applied for a grid position in the FIA Formula One World Championship in November 2005. Since then, I have participated in the championship for 2 years and 4 months as the SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM, but regretfully I must inform you that the team will be ceasing its racing activities as of today.

“The team has competed against the many car manufacturer backed teams and has succeeded in obtaining the first points after only the 22nd race finishing in 9th place overall in the 2007 Constructors’ Championship. However, the breach of contract by the promised partner SS United Oil & Gas Company resulted in the loss of financial backing and immediately put the team into financial difficulties. Also, the change in direction of the environment surrounding the team, in terms of the use of customer chassis, has affected our ability to find partners.

“Meanwhile, with the help of Honda, we have somehow managed to keep the team going, but we find it difficult to establish a way to continue the activities in the future within the environment surrounding F1 and as a result, I have concluded to withdraw from the Championship.

“I would like to express my deepest thanks to Honda, Bridgestone, the sponsors, all the people who have given us advise during various situations over the past couple of years all the Team Staff who have kept their motivations high and always done their best, Anthony Davidson who has always pushed to the limit despite the very difficult conditions, Takuma Sato who has been with us from the very start and has always fought hard and led the team and lastly our fans from all over the world who have loyally supported the SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM.”
