Of course, one of the differences between F1 circuits and Delhi roads is the lack of fauna on the former! So if you're slip streaming at 120 k's, and a dog pops out in front of the car in front of you and he brakes suddenly, race well and truly over!! | | | | | | | |

A little commentary piece thank you. | Bravo Bravo Mr. Steve Slater potential material!! that was good.. especially cuz i was leadin the 'pack'..
on a more serius note though, Do we have any kind of commercial racing tracks in the country? you know, more than just go-kart tracks, so that crazy morons like me could go there every single day? Ashish Goel

on a more serious note, yes there is an international level racingtrack in India. Only one. Its the IRUNGATTUKOTTAI RACE TRACK in Chennai. The reason Chennai is considered by many to be the Motor Sport capital of the country. Of course there were considerations being made to develop it into an F1 track, but apart from the track itself, there is no room for the unbelievable amount of supporting infrastructure. Source iBlog

But pirelli pulled out of F1, and Naidu went out of office, so it did not pan out.
Now, i think delhi is a good choice.. Well, the track is not in delhi actily, its in Greater Noida or something.. around 80 kms out of the heart of delhi. And, out there there is enough room for infastructure.. believe me, more than enough room... hehe.. Ashish Goel

By the way, did any body check out the GP2 in malaysia this sunday. Apparently, the GP2 races FOLLOW the F1 races on same weekends. It is supposed to save infrastructure setting problems, and ensures high attendances too
I say, those guys are getting fast! One thing i noticed was, there are more cars (around 2 , and then there were a lot more overtaking maneuvers.. the top spot changed hands ON THE TRACK... that has really stopped happening in F1 now.. strategy here is the name of the game..
BTW, it DID rain in sepang... the F2 GP was wet in the initial stages.. hehe.. what luck for F1.. otherwise dear ole kimi could have had a problem..
Noticed that GP2 cars used flat tyres... I think they could be catching pretty fast.. and F1 is trying to reduce technology, and reduce speeds.. i donot agree with them doing that..
Well, the GP2 also had just 33 laps.. as against 54(?) of F1.. well, technologically, i think F1 is the best.. well, hence the name, i guess.. Ashish Goel

Yaar tell me something. Do you think 2010 tak Delhi will be ready to host an F1 race? I mean given the amount of infrastructure required, that level of a race circuit, airport, freeway, hotels et al, do you see it happening in 2010?
I would love to see it happen, would love if someone in the NCR would update us if there is anything happening...coz quite frankly, I can't imagine an F1 race in India in 2 years' time.
Ashish, update pliss !! iBlog

News Item:
New Delhi, November 15
Country's hopes to host a formula one Grand Prix in 2010 took a concrete shape with F1 bosses striking a Rs 1500 crore deal with an Indian company to construct the race track in Greater Noida.
The Indian Olympic Association had been instrumental behind inviting Formula One to India and two sites on the outskirts of the capital had been okayed for the purpose.
Later, famous track architect Hermann Tilke visited the sites and submitted a report to Ecclestone.
...........................
Well, what I could gather with all the latest news pieces is that the Greater Noida track has been finally chosen over Gurgaon. the track is gonna cost 720 crores, a part of which will be footed by Indian Olympic Association. They plan to follow the Bahrain track model to keep the cash coming in.
Now, i havent been even close to visiting greater noida in the past 2 years.. so i have no first hand experience. but, The freeway/expressway is already in place connecting greater noida to noida/delhi.
Also, since the Jaypee group is involved, one can expect work to be going on at a furious pace.
Hotels: i am of the opinion that Vijay Mallya will soon be entering the hotel business.. "kingfisher hotels", i guess.. that would be a great indicator of the successful work going on.
the only problem is, i believe, that the IOA is involved. The 2010 commonwealth games infrastructure development has fallen way behind schedule... but i guess FIA is a much more professionally managed thing. It will not give as much slack to IOA. And the deal is anyway directly with the JP grp..
I have heard of a new airport being planned in Gnoida. Anyway, IGI airport is under massive renovation/reconstruction/capacity increase drive..
All things covered, one final point is that GNoida has no dearth of space problems..
Well, and lets keep our fingers crossed.. in a year, we wud know fr sure Ashish Goel
