me knows the answers to that question..

u,
love one - atlas shrugged
hate one - fountainhead
not read - we the living

me have read foutainhead.. a beautifully written piece.. i liked the way AR has described the different characters.. sometimes i kinda felt a bit skeptical abt the actions of howard roark.. it looked a lil' too unreal..

now i have AS and will be reading it leisurely after my exams..

cheers,
aravind

i have read the fountainhead and atlas shrugged and found that atlas shrugged was more of fiction. by the way Ayn Rand seems to be a favourite of people to take their interviewing panel for a ride or pre prepared questions. by the way one interesting tid bit for you people. some experts have been debating and the general consensus is that Horward Roark is based on Frank Lloyd Wright ( the same guy who made that statement in the XAT essay) the contemporary american architect. Ayn Rand herself always denied this one but that is what some people say. in fact all the houses he designed ... none of them were ever painted

Lucifer please don't trivialize this thread So mind elucidating why you didn't like "We The Living"? any particular aspects? I haven't completed the book yet....but the style is a lot diff from her later works....in AS and FH she does get quite prolix in some places...."We The.." it is easier to follow.....the one thing abt Ayn Rand which always makes me go "duh???" is when she writes in abt the "romantic" part of her characters...somehow I don't find it convincing enough..be it that of Kira Argounova or Dagny Taggart or Dominic Francon...or their invariably more than one male counterparts There is something tangible missing..I have never been able to pinpoint it..wonder IF anyone else out here share the same feeling too....

Yup..the similarity of the characters has been debated for quite some time....this is from a web page...check out...

Not that it is conclusive of anything...but yes it does seem Frank Lloyd may have been a bit influential in the characterization of Howard Roark But then it is 02I.
