Hi Puys,
So we have started another season of CAT exam and the chaos that follows afterwards...... Some people suddenly become prophets and start predicting cut offs even to the second decimal!!!!
Though I agree that to some extent everbody is anxious to asess his/her performance, but isn't it going overboard?
Do share your interesting experiences/thoughts/views here! How important it is in life not necessarily to be strong........but to feel strong Scores | | | | | The Following 18 Users Say Thank You to garfieldthecat For This Useful Post: | andy4u (28-11-2007), chop suey (28-11-2007), fringant (30-11-2007), fultoo_bakar (28-11-2007), gabriel666 (29-11-2007), gaurishankar (28-11-2007), george_863 (30-11-2007), HarshaRocks (28-11-2007), jagannath_4all (03-12-2007), Keere (30-11-2007), live_n_let_live99 (28-11-2007), macora (29-11-2007), profootball25 (28-11-2007), rahulworld (29-11-2007), sid_dharth (28-11-2007), spirit11 (28-11-2007), veritas (06-12-2007), writetotanveer (29-11-2007)

Its natural u kno...
Its the way we are built...
Someone is pregnant..."she is reading a lot these days, its gotta be a girl".. "Look at her talking obscenely, it must be the boy in her"...
We are humans after all ... and when the thing is "in"...everybody becomes an expert...
Just after the cat was over..some student on a news channel was saying ...."The english section was easy, except it was very tricky"... the guy hasnt even had time to recover for god sakes!!... ..
and the dumb journalist who doesnt know the whiskers of the cat from its tail asks "So, do you think you would make it to the IIMs?"...what does he expect the student to say..? "jeez..i am missing
A call by 0.03%ile" ???
And what do we do...we switch one channel after other...jus like we click on threads...and absorb all that nonsense.... we are just built that way...
Rock on!

yeah Mahip u sure were.... THE GREAT INDIAN CAT TAMASHA...
here's is my take on all the fiasco being carried out in the name of analysis of cat 2007;
here are my arguments:
1) The cat cut offs are based on a very small sample of around couple of thousands of students now i say there are about 2lac ppl who gave cat this year how is it possible for any insti to come up with cutoffs based on couple of thousand ppl for a tset that was taken by lacs of ppl..i mean its practically insane.....
2) Secondly these cutoffs are based on the key made by each institute by itself, and we all know wat happened last time and the amount of disperancy which one can see this time around with each insti having his own insti specific keys..i mean its maddening..u go to one isnti u get one score and moment u chk with othr isnti ur score is all diff....so again a big flaw..
3)ppl tend to exaggerate there scores after the cat,i donn knw why some of them do it but i have my own xperience in this matter to prove my point...
i donn knw why do cat has been made into a monster xam which will decide the fate of all of us..i mean it seems like only iims hold the key to a golden future but i would like to raise just one q..how many narayam murthys,dhirubhai...have come out of iims now please forgive me for my ignorance if i am missing someone out but i really just donn get the heck of it..it simply is a case of demand and supply mismatch..which is taken advantage by everyone from instis to coaching institutes who have hyped cat to such a degree that it has now become a status symbol for ppl to say that they arre preparin for cat,and after cat theres more to come now we have instis declarin deadlines...cat analysis by so and so time...we are the first to put the analysis..and so on..its like each insti is out for scorin brownie points over one another and as ppl like being part of a biig tamasha students jump in the band wagon...and they come up with most funny q's sir my 10th marks are so and so..my btech is so and so..my xtra curricular are so and so..and now sir my scores are 88 ac to xyx key,67 acc to agb key,98 acc to uyu key....and it goes on and then in the end like mortal askin ORACLE...come's the million dollar q do i stand to get a call...and the oracle answers yeah MAYBE...wholly shit all this details for maybe..i mean the fellow must be something....
so all i say is just chill out dudes your work was to give cat with all u got and that you gave,so just realx and wait for the results..don just jump into game of ifs and buts.... | | | | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to spirit11 For This Useful Post:

IIMs should make it a practice to release the keys at most 7 days after the test. This would give some kind of relief to majority of the people anxiously waiting for the results, and would also put an end to this analysis tamasha.
I really dont find any reason for them not to do that. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to krishor For This Useful Post:

I really dont find any reason for them not to do that. | how i would have loved that!!
the waits killin me....
but i'll tell u wat would ensue.......
1. TIME / CL / CF / IMS - Score calcis would thrive - they would be tellin us what percentiles we'll be gettin irrespective of the number of ppl providing their scores....
2. Instead of arguing this and that should be the answer and how TIME IMS CF CL screwed up we wud be talkin about how crazy the IIM's are and how they're goofin up...
3. We'd still be wonderin wat their criteria for seln is gonna be this time around and askin each other how many calls we shud expect...
4. TIME IMS CL CF would already start sayin they had the toppers wid them....
5. IMPORTANTLY - Majority of the ppl would be disheartend for 42 odd days longer in their life! - no offense meant but true.....
All said and then i completely agree wid u......
