well..i jst started with this book right now..decided to post a sitter!!
try this:
which great book in english literature starts with:
He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the gulf stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish.In the first forty days a boy had been with him.But after forty days without a fish the boy'd parents had told him that the the old man was now definately and finally a salao ,which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boatwhich caught three food fish the first week.

yeh..n just as a small postscript to simon's answer, this exact paragraph was the first thing i saw when i sat in my first ever board exams ('9  for CBSE X english paper.
ofcourse, the answer is old man & the sea..but thats totally beside the point :wink: :wink:
