I guess everyone is aware of the ongoing voting for wonders of world,
Does this makes sense in voting for wonders of world, and kind of advertising going on. The final list will definitely not be the ones deserving, most of them will be voted out of regional bias.

Yesterday i was arguing with my friends about the same thing,
should one vote for Taj mahal or not,
A says " I didnt see Taj why should I vote and waste my SMS, from which the telcos cash"
B says"As an Indian you vote for Taj, once it gets the wonder status then India will get more tourism"

I would like to know what Puys think about this, did any one vote, if then for what & why you voted ?

I voted for Taj Mahal,great wall of china..and i dont remem the others.

Admins , I searched for similar threads but i couldn't find one.
If there exists a thread..please merge this with that one.

I did... I voted for the TAJ.. Not merely because I am an Indian and National Heritage should be preserved... that was a reason... but not the THE reason...

Not because I should display my patriotism..

I voted just coz I have been at the TAJ and I am awed by the striking structure... I have travelled a little... but among the little.. (really very little) that Ive seen... I havent come across something as magnificient as the TAJ...

Lot of argument over this topic over last few days... Some fancy against voting saying this is nothing but cash for the telcos, Who are they to decide the wonder of taj? Neither the Indian ministry nor the UNESCO's world heritage comission is a part of this voting blah blah blah..

But I wonder when we do participate in different surveys and polls by magazines like Outlook, The Week, programs like Indian IDOL etc etc.., why are we against this one? May it be official, or may it be for profit, there's a poll being conducted, and people voting for taj (thru sms/email/website), there's nothing wrong or to be criticized in that. The Hindu published an article against voting taj, even criticizing A.R.Rehaman for encouraging it (with his video single: Taj - Ek Mohabbat).. What's wrong with you people? People who don't like this process of voting taj, don't do it. Who's compelling you? But let others exercise their Right to express their support.

Hey I voted too!! though I believe that such events are bogus.

I voted for the Angkor Wat of Cambodia and some others.

I had been to Taj many years back. Read terrible stories about how it was built. And Ive heard that the structure is strange and rotten from the inside.
I have been told that it stinks.
So I did not vote for it. I am told that it inspires some people as a monument of love. Goodluck to them.

Its not about the Taj being rotten from the inside or not, but about whether one considers it being one of the wonders in the world. I although, personally think that Taj Mahal overshadows the ruthlessness of Shah Jahan as a king.

Anyway, this whole thing about Taj Mahal being considered or not considered to be the one of the wonders of the world is just one of those activities that the media has taken up, which is also benefitting the various telecom companies, because people just have a new reason to SMS. As if all the singing, dancing, stand up comedy etc shows weren't helping.

And I really don't buy this whole concept that if the Taj Mahal is not considered a wonder anymore (by who?) tourism will drop.

I also did vote for the taj.
I am against this whole idea of having to vote for the wonders of the world without the sanction of any official body.the voting is obviously going to be done on the basis of region and nationality and needless to say that a good campaign in a country with a large population is quite enough to stir up the patriotism in its people and get their votes and help their monument make it to the list(even though the monument may have not been maintained properly and no one cares a damn about it unless something like this comes up).
this thing is surely a big money spinner for the organisers with everyone party to it cashing in on the sentiments of people-literally.
now why did i vote ?simple-i dont want taj to be out of any list official or unofficial.
Of course this is a good advertisement for the taj because
a)There will be thousands who take this ranking seriously and will want to see the taj if it makes it to the list(and there are lots of foreigners who never knew about the taj till this voting thing came up)
b)Once it makes it to the list i think it may have at least a little impact on our good for nothing politicians to do something to enhance the beauty of the taj(like cleansing the place of waste,preventing industrialisation,etc near the monument)
if it does make it there will be more attraction and attention to the taj.

Rotten from the inside as in the "shauchalay" kind of environment.
I was speaking about the aesthetics and not "rotten" as in morally.

And I personally find the brutalities of Show Jahan overshadowing the Taj Mahal.

Hello all.i am a silent spectator of pg although i jus keep on checking the threads constatntly .i dont know y the stupid people abroad have gone for a revision process for the wonder of the world.to me Taj is and Taj will be among the seven wonders of the world .i just cant think how can one monument which is built in such a spendid way and is one of the seven wonders of world can be ousted of the wonders by mere voting.can anybody tell me how will voting help Taj in reatining the seven wonders of world.

Ok. It may not hamper the tourism in any way but look at all the hype that this managed to generate - Many eye-balls would turn the Taj way if it does manage to get on the list. And I believe it will. Its pure numbers they want, be it for the votes or the money from SMSes/Marketing - and India has it.

And I hear that the body conducting this is an NGO and some part of the profits from all this exercise will go into benefitting the 'Wonders'. I can only hope its true.

If we vote and taj wins there will be many who will consider it one of the wonders of the world.(it already is a wonder in my humble opinion)
As i said its a good advertisement for the taj.there is momentum now so we should work on the momentum and cash in on the opportunity and publicity it will get when it makes it to the list.
Tourism might not drop if taj does not make it but if taj makes it then tourism will most likely get a boost
