Re: Wonders of World -

Taj Mahal is a symbol of blood. We all know about ruthlessness of Shah Jahan- how he chopped off the fingers of the wrorkers who built it. But there is an even more astounding fact which has been kept under wraps by the successive governments.
A Shiv temple was destroyed to build Taj Mahal. The temple was called Tejo Mahalya. Any surprise that both the words Taj and Mahal are of Sanskrit origin?
These are just a few facts...There is lot of architeructural evidence as well.
Wonder of the world? Really? Is aesthetic beauty the only criteria to judge and decide wonders of the world? The gore that's associated with the structure can be forgotten? But hey, we don't even know that!! We are secularists after all...Symbol of Love? Really? Pure Love?...Yes, if carnal sexual lust is considered to be...
I know that nothing that's not in our History books will ya believe in. Even if you believe me, it would not matter whatever happened...Just because government says so, you will lap up the propoganda. Just because it is the most recognized symbols of India in the West?

Obviously Plumber. There are only two pictures, the western people can think of when someone says India. Either its a sage floating in thin air, or the picture of Taj Mahal.
You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today.
They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine.' So that was nice

This is typically a game going on ....You can call it as Wonder Idol (Similar like Indian Idol or Sa-Re-Ga-Ma etc etc, there are many... )
Its the people who will select.Similar like if a participant does not deserve a position, since he is poor, or he looks good, we will make him to be there.
Wether Taj deserve the position or not, its our emotional attachment which matter. Well, Taj Mahal is, no doubt, one of the greatest wonder, but I don't think It deserve the position in 7 wonders.
but still, special thanks to media(The scroll in News Channels: Vote for Taj),and not the least-our population we will definitely make the Taj to be in top 7.

Does anyone have any idea of the original 7 wonders were decided?... Why dont they use that same process.... to be fair...!
This way if there are more internet users in say US, Statue of Liberty will win hands-down!
Which is not fair!..
Khair... everything is fair in love, war and wonders!!

I have also voted for the TAJ. Simple reason... becoz i am an Indian.
I think that this whole concept of telling people to vote for the list is not a gr8 idea. How ,many people who are voting would have seen all the monuments which are being voted for ??? most probably none. So just by seeing 1 or 2 of them or reading about them i cannnot decide which would be the best 7.
It is a better idea to have a group comprising of good architects and historians from the world and let them decide based on their findings and the votes polled.
Anyway if the selection is through votes let it be that way. If TAJ is selected India can certainly be proud.....

Ok, you *may* have got the facts right. But this - "Taj Mahal is a symbol of blood" is a ridiculous thing to say. It may be built after destroying a temple, it may have resulted in chopping of fingers, but what was the motive for building it? - Love. So, it should stand for Love.
And where did you get this - "Taj and Mahal are of Sanskrit origin". Mahal, I don't know, but Taj is definitely of a persian origin. Unless you start arguing that Persian & Sanskrit origined from the same place.
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club

Just a reminder to all those who are passionately advocating for the TAJ (I am!)... Though it sounds ridiculous how "voting over the internet" can result in the TAJ being in the 7 wonders.. (or not!)..
The last date to vote is the 7th I think... so we dont have much time... if you know ppl who have not / or are in no mood to vote.. please ask them to...!
Time nahi hai!

Excellent. What was the need to chop off someone else's fingers? Couldn't he have expressed his Love without resorting to such violence? In any case, such tyrannical violence doesn't speak highly of civilization, does it?
Just because Mumtaz would not get laid with Shahjan, unless he built Taj Mahal, doesn't make it a symbol of Love, unless by Love you imply doing everything possible to sleep with someone. This is not some Bollywood movie about Show Jaan and B*mtaaz. And yes, there's a theory that says that love stories was just a dodge invented to justify building of Taj Mahal .(It's evident that people shout "But it was Love" the moment any argument against Taj is made...Not that it would have any credence amongst the junta who want to face only facts!)
And intentions are not the only thing that define a monument/action. A child-molester thinks by molesting the child, he's really expressing his love, Would you consider the room (built specially) in which child-molester molests the child as a symbol of Love? No, isn't it? Go back and read your point. Your arguments would even justify that. Pardon me for using such a gross analogy, but didn't see any better way to make my point.

Taj Mahal is a corrupted version of Tejo mahalay. For more facts, and before you come out with a reply, head here:

Re: Wonders of World -

whatever may be the history, for Taj to gain the wonder status does it has anything to do with it.
Building such a monument with the technology at that time is great.
@Plumber well said about the symbol of love. Its all cos of some poets who gave it the false impression...we have to blame them, and our politicians(Indira gandhi..etc ) who kept all evidence hidden.
An excerpt:--
(AP) -- Egypt is scoffing at a global contest to name the new seven wonders of the world, saying it is a disgrace that the ancient Pyramids of Giza - the only surviving structure from the traditional list of architectural marvels - must compete for a spot.
