1. This purpose highlighted in bold above does not get solved unless users leading this thread involve people who post on the CAT/GMAT/Prep Resources threads into this activity. Remember, we are an MBA prep community and everything else is only secondary. So no CAT, no truly representative 'best posts of pagalguy'.
2. This thread should NOT become a Surrogate route to a thread version of the 'Extreme Pagalhood' idea that was floated some time back. Either way, promoting favoritism limited to a few set of posters is not happening on Pagalguy.
This thread shall live as long as the two points above are kept in mind. Good luck to all.

Apurv | I have given my own suggestions to keep the entire process simple & "transparent"..I guess only Mods/Admins have the power to make a thread a sticky...
Just go thru the suggestions I posted earlier & am quoting again... Quote:

I didn't expect to say this to this bunch of users... but I must say, good initiative.
No matter what format, template et al you use, ensure two things are mentioned:
1. The link to the post (or links to the set of posts) that you are mentioning.
2. The users who wrote those posts. Due credit should be given to them, and I can see you too do not shy away from doing that.
Also, a short brief on the post will be welcome. But not always. There are some posts that need to be read directly, without someone giving you a glimpse of what they are.
Being selfish, I'll suggest the threads we used to frequent last season, for MICA...
We were all MICA wannabes (I didn't make it ) then, and were very passionate about the preps for MICAT et al. The post counts reached 2000+ on these threads, and I suggest you do read through many of them - quite a few insights I myself received then http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/other-...ca-2006-a.html (Communication Management MBA....? MICA 2006, anyone?) http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/other-...ge-pi-feb.html (Prep for MICA GE/PI for Feb 2006 begins here) http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/other-...periences.html (The MICA GE/PI experiences!!) There is just one thing I differ on with respect to the scope of "Sticky Posts" based on what was discussed in the posts u posted links to...
In those discussions, a "sticky post" was described as a post which would always remain at the top/beginning of the thread to which it belongs...
However, I dont think such a system will facilitate archiving of "Best Posts" coz a Newbie or any other Puy would still have to go to the respective thread to check it out...
What I am suggesting is that instead of having a "Sticky Post" move to the beginning of its own thread.... How about having it moved to the "Best Posts" thread of the same section (Again...this will serve the purpose only if the "Best Posts" thread is itself a Sticky thread) | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to shubhankar85 For This Useful Post:

I think we can't have sticky posts, as there's a limit to number of sticky posts that one can have. A sticky thread, containing description/links of insanely-great posts, should serve the purpose.
I concur with Apurv that to make this idea truly deserving of the term " Celebrating ' Pagalpan' ", it's clear that we will need regulars from all sections, and not just Lounge section, to contribute.
Can't say anything as to how involving people from other sections would work out. I have not been a regular at visiting other sections, due to which I am quite unaware of people who are active there. I tried to browse through a few threads to see if some prominent posters exist, but couldn't find any. Obviously, if any regular familiar with other sections is reading this, he is more than welcome to participate and give his ideas. I don't mind even PMing regualars, provided someone(maybe the mods-nikhil/rmbt) tells me who they are. I am still hoping for a few new ideas to emerge, and a discussion on the idea of having "digests" of insanely-great posts.
Quite frankly, the level of participation's been dissapointing, considering more than 550 people have read this thread so far. Am I the only one who feels that had I given this thread an aura of "exclusivity", more people would have come forward with their (counter)views?
Cheers!

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...tml#post609988 (CAT 2006: Attempts, Scores, Percentiles)
Poster: S_G
Reasons: 1. This was firstever post of this dOOd.
2. CAT 06 thread had lot of nonsense mostly because there were no intelligent posters like CAT 05 thread namely shrutz,DG,convo,Oxy etc.
And after first 115 pages of CAT 06 posts, I finally found a diamond who exactly said what CAT 06 was like.
I read and re-read and said BOY! Good effort happening here to bookmark all the Great posts at PG.
But I just had an idea, Can we have a new functionality added so that we can save some posts as our individual favourites. Something like 'Add as Favourite' or 'Enable Bookmark' thing we find in browsers. Is this possible? You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club

Different people like the same post for different reasons coz everyone has their own viewpoint/perspective... | I still stand by what I originall said.. The idea being that some posts can be standalone greatness personified but a lot of them taken out of context will cease to be great. The idea of a digest is to make the user better able to appreciate the context. @PLUMBER When I said digest, I did not had any specific idea in mind. One possibility is that we enjoy the liberty of explaining the context while not touching the post, the other is enjoying complete liberty.
EXAMPLE: SACHIN DIGEST Quote: Thread Link
Started towards the fag end of 2004, this thread became a cult at PG. It became mandatory for anyone visiting Chit-Chatto register his presence at this thread. Bottomsup started it by coining a question whether Sachin is past his prime and if yes, should he retire voluntarily? While people were divided in their opinions for the first few posts writing clichéd statements like “Form is Temporary, Class is Permanent.”, MvB’s post - Link provided by Plumber infused life into the thread.

A digest can also mean that 2-3 good posts will be combined in 1 with interesting reading.. Hard Work is not known to have killed anybody, but Why take a chance? | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to subodh_iit For This Useful Post:

The example of an intro/opening/summary of a "digest" you gave was really good...
But thats what I am trying to stress... A digest or review or whatever really earns its worth only if its well-written & creates sufficient interest for the "Best post"
But you have gotta realize that not everyone can write good reviews or digest summaries like you...(Now dont tell me that you will write all of the digest reviews...Coz I am sure not many would appreciate that..!!! I certainly wont ..& I m sure that is not whats on your mind )
Besides there are a few threads which neither you nor Plumber are regulars at (Of course....there are other good posters in those threads...& I will take the liberty of including myself among those ) & the one which most readily comes to my mind is the "Harry Potter" thread... And amongst all of those good/really good posters....how does one agree upon who gets to be the one who writes the "digest summary" or whatever..????
And yes...in what you are suggesting...a good digest review will do enormous justice to the post....
But what happens if the digest review is below par..??? Not only would it screw up a single post....But an entire digest of posts..!!!!!
Try and suggest a reliable mechanism to counter all that I have brought up...& I shall agree with you on this digest thingie..!!!! | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to shubhankar85 For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
