hi jacob just cheked out the config of DELL XPS M 1210
DellTM XPS M1210 Notebook keeping everything same and just changing the processor to intel core 2 duo t5600 and cahnging the video card to a 256 mb nividia(r).the copst works out to 66,412.we can gta discount of atleast 10 to 15%.if we gt atlaest 5 ppl fr the same model.the quantum of discount can go up depending on the number of students we can gt together

Yes, the config is almost the same, but it includes a 9-cell battery and the total cost is 55K. The config found out by Bugs Bunny had a 6 cell battery and was for 56K and to upgrade to 9-cell it cost 1400+. So a saving of nearly 2.5k right in the front. But as u said, for a bulk deal, we can surely negotiate further and get much more for that 55k.

And regarding the numbers, don't worry about it. Wait till the IIMs come out with the results and u will see the count increase. Coz even last year there were nearly 30 odd people for the Dell deal. Right now i think there are atleast 10 ppl here for the deal.

And yes, we need to decide on the model and the basic configuration required for the deal. Once we do that, someone who is good at negotiating can start the negotiation. And hopefully, the results would have comeout by then, so that we can get some 20-25 ppl in the deal at the least.

PS: I will post my basic configuration by the EOD today. We can look at what the basic config is for many ppl and choose that as the basic config for the deal.

i have started the process from my end

they will call me in day or two and i will ask them the maximum discount they can give of we purchase minimum 25 laptps (no. can surely go up)

so as soon as final rate is out i will post the same in this particular thread

@alan will ask the rate for 9 cell battery also
i will advice to go for 2 gd ram coz window vista need minimum 1 gd but still 2 gd is preferable

it seems that too many ppl are eager to talk to the dell ppl...pls lts nt do this in this way
it will only spoil thngs...himanshu if u wd have taken the botheration to read the previous posts then u would have understood that myself and bugsbunny have already spoken to them once....also theres no piont on talking to them further untill we all have decided on a particular configuration..or have u already decided a configuration fr us and expect us to buy that only...lets us do things in a systematic way...were in we frst decide on a particular configuration and then we talk abt we can gt out of the dell ppl...also if u have read the previous posts u wd have understood that there are two groups of ppl 1 who wd like to buy a laptop in the higher range that is 65to70k and other who wd like to buy a laptop on the lower end that is 50-55k...so pls dnt rush through thngs..its a request...hope ull help us in getting a better deal by cooperating wth us....
