I was more interested in having things I want and not having things I don't want

Basically I need in the laptop the ability to process heavy duty spreadsheets/documents - those with MBs of data and tons of comments and tracked changes. I'm not into gaming - just movies for which a normal processor suffices

Want:
1. Around 1.8GHz M processor (Don't need a Dual Core)
2. 2GB RAM
3. 80GB HDD
4. DVD ROM/CD RW
5. FireWire
6. Min 3 USB Ports
7. 14" - 15" Screen
8. Onboard Graphics & Sound Card
9. Laptop card slots
10. Bluetooth, Ethernet Card, WiFi
11. Lightweight
10. SXGA+ Resolution

Don't Want:
1. Windows OS
2. DVD Writer
3. Webcam
4. > 100GB HDD
5. Intel Processor
6. Floppy Drive
7. Dedicated Graphics or Sound Card

That's why I was looking for a place where I could get an assembled laptop. Will also be trying to get a quote for the parts whenever I can (so that I can build it myself). Let's see how (if) it works out...

Check out Compaq Presario C754TU, Compaq Presario C771TU. These 2 machines have Intel Celeron, 80GB HDD, DVD Writer, 2 USB port. I need to check Laptop card slots & SXGA (they have WXGA TFT Display with BrightView Screen). They come with 512MB RAM which you can update to 2GB by paying 1500 extra. The cost is 26,800 & 25,000 incusive of taxes.

You can also check Toshiba L310-P4010 this will come to 36,000 incusive of taxes.

I'm a planning to buy a laptop for b school use

The hp model of the dv4 1211 series is having vista home basic and the dv4 1242 is having vista home premium
dv4 1211 is having arnd 42k whereas dv4 1242 is having 47k( mrkt price here), which includes 128mb video card also..everything else is same as dv4 1211

actually i'm having a bias over dv4 1211, i like the design and since i wont be much ...does the OS really differ much from premium to bacis for a bschool guy????

wat r the main diff b/w Vista home basic and Vista Home premium...
