Gud 9 Paji logs r protesting in MBA Forum...Y dont u launch new site named PagalPaji instead of doing dis here?
Dekho paji log...whenever d word sardar cums in a joke people starts laughing..u cant stop such humours.Haan u have right to vent ur anger.
But dis site is equally gud for MBA aspirants also. Coz sum can fail to convert/get a call frm B-School..so better they can visit dis site and feel relive by laughing...
Waise site ka nam hi kafi hai logo ko hasane k liye....

That is where the question of "intend" arises, if the joke is said in good faith with laughter being the only intention I dont think it should matter. You are open to disagree with me.

Hi Gabriel

Sardar is directly related to Sikhs, you dont find a sardar to be christian or muslim.
and i have never come across a joke on christians or hindus. and if there are any such then i dont support it.
If you want to tell a joke with good intend u can even tell it without using sardars as victims....and now a days the feeling is that the intend is not right especially when it goes on everytime.

again it is not about telling a joke about marathis, or gujratis, or southindians. or punjabis. Punjabis can really kill you, not with their swords but with their humor....

you can still disagree...for the name of democracy....

First of all i do not understand why is this protest being carried out on PG... the last i checked PG was primarily giving MBA gyan and not distributing sardar jokes...

also y is the issue bout sardar jokes... there are madrasi jokes too... if u feel sardar jokes are racial in nature.. imagine how south indians feel wen the entire of south india is clubbed together as madrasi.. and the accents are forever teased upon.. i dont see any issue being raised there... wat bout biharis.. and the laloo language... i think of late there hav been more bihari jokes than sardar ones...

guys.. get real.. while we joke bout sardars its also universally accepted that they are big hearted and very nice ppl... y r u not lukin at that??

if all of us take such issues so seriously then i think we would b a race of really boring ppl...

pls do not raise such issues that are trite and ridiculous...

Nisha005 appeared at the box office of a cinema and bought two tickets. A few minutes later she returned and bought two more. When, after a short interval, she appeared a third time and offered to pay for two more, the ticket-seller opened the little door in the glass and spoke up.
'Aren't you the same person who just bought two tickets and two others just a while ago?' she asked, puzzled.
'Yes', replied nisha plaintively, 'but there's some fool at the gate who keeps tearing them up!'

Still seems funny to me...

It's a matter of interpretation I guess. You could speak of sardars as both a community and a religion. The jokes flying around are on sardars as a community or cultural group rather than sardars as sikhs. Your argument is like saying that a joke on a tamil brahmin (tambram) is a joke on hindus in south india, or a joke on the French is a joke on catholics and a joke on Americans is a joke on protestants, etc. But jokes are based on mannerisms and idiosyncrasies (which might often be hugely exhaggerated) than they are on religion. I agree that the distinction between sardar as a community and sardar as sikhs is hard to agree upon in this context because sardars are the only sokhs and vice versa. But as someone said, the 'intent' matters. They are just jokes, and i dont think any sikh or gujju or bong or tambram gets discriminated against because of the jokes cracked on them. What's more, Khushwant Singh himself has published 2 volumes of sardar jokes and his column in HT has a sardar joke every now and then. Laughing at cultures is fine. I would agree with you if there were jokes made on any religious heads as that would be in bad taste. But Santa Banta isn't about religion at all.

Cheers,

This shows the kind of relegious sentiments people posess. Not any one community. People are ready to kill each other on the slightest provocation on their relegious sentiments, and we have seen it all around us.

As far as jokes about sikhs are concerned, people who say that you can make jokes on madarasis, bongs and gujjus are infact making an invalid argument. We are not talking here about jokes on punjabi's.

Would the same people stop minding if the jokes are infact on hindus, muslims or christans.

My argument here is people should think of how would they feel if the same thing comes back to them, before they make such comments
