So it is the fourteenth day of February, better known as the Valentine's Day. They say the significance of this day is that St. Valentine in ancient Rome was nailed and beheaded this day for clandestinely marrying couples in love. The tale says that this was against the orders of the then emperor of Rome, Claudius. He prohibited marriage in his empire so that more men can join army to quench his thirst for spreading his kingdom.

So that's how the fable goes. No one knows for sure whether this is true, but what everyone does know is that love is the most beautiful and the most divine feeling in the world. And this day is for the celebration of love. When I think of it, I really think do we need a special day for celebrating love? Isn't love ubiquitous and forms the basis of our very existence?

For those who believe in God, everyday is God's day and they say their prayers without fail every single day of the year, every single day of their lives. Is it not the same with love? They say Cleanliness is next to Godliness. I'll say Godliness is next to Loveliness. Love is God and God is nothing but Love. This love can be between a mother and her child, between husband and wife, between a patriot and his country or a simple love for your fellowmen.

But its not love if it needs recognition, if it demands a stamp, if it wants a particular day in the year to celebrate itself. Love is eternal and love is always there, Valentine's day or not. I think its more of a Zeitgeist than anything else.

Happy Valentine's Day to all. May love never cease to shine in your lives.
