I've been using it for the past few months since it was launched...And gotta admit...Its been REAL good...Never really expected BSNL to live upto its promise of 256kbps when it said so...But they do provide the same  As for the b/w that you get...presently its unlimited (that explains my >15GB downloads per month ;-)) ...But after June 1st they are gonna stick by the 1GB pm for the 256kbps plan...For your usage, you cud prolly use that 1GB over a few months Normal browsing rarely, if ever, uses a lot of b/w...Its only d/ls and when u watch movies online that you really start using up b/w....And yea, for downloading a site, a few KB invariably have to be uploaded...The remote comp should know where it has to send its data ;-)

Cheers

thanx all u guys for ur suggestions (uRmad, vineet, maverick) , but still the problem is the same  and it seems that the only panacea to my prob. is a new HDD so looking forward to get a new one (80GB). shud i go for seagate or samsung ???: and plz give some gyan on how to achieve the maximum usage of it since a lot of it gets dissipated while partitioning it. want to make 4 partitions 15,15,20,30 GB's.

btw uRmad, is there any chance that i can get a DATAONE connection with unlimited d/ld in the same scheme,u being very lucky though!!! but i dont watch movies on net its just whether 1GB wud be suffice? These BSNL ppl r so sluggish, its been 13 days since i have subscribed to it and yet there r'nt any signs of them fixing the modem to my comp. ,once its done only then wud come to know if its worthy enough or not.

till then...
take care u al n kp rockin

Linux Installation ... Pls help - 20-06-2005, 01:22 AM

I wish to install Linux on my PC but am a little skeptical about
doing the same. Could you please conform how this can be
done, without the system crashing, and what is the configuration
that I should set. Would obviously not want to lose information
stored on the comp. Kindly help.

first and foremost u need to make a new formatted partition of "ext" format.
use partition magic software(http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/) to do this. make atleast 10 gb partition to be on the safe side.
then just boot from the linux cd , follow instructions and install the linux.
if u r planning for a dual boot i.e both windows and linux ...then i wud suggest use some os management software. partition magic itself got an os management software or u can go for a separate one like partition commander (http://www.v-com.com/)

this is as much i understand....correct me ppl if i m wrong.

Its better to just have a space without any formatting. Linux installer will automatically create the swap & extended partitions (accept the default it gives which will be all the free space excluding swap) Swap will be used as volatile memory.
If u want to have a choice btw two systems on startup, then use Loadlin or LILO. In latter case u can have ur Linux installation beyond 1024 cylinder limit ie ur Linux partition need not be the first primary in the primary disk. Be cautious while using Partition Magic, if u use it

Its most user friendly, so much that it trusts its friend too much to have knowledge. many have just done smthing out of curiosity and then cried like hell and u have no way to retriev the data then, except than using some big wig s/w to get back the formatted data, using hexcodes etc.
Thats why ... b cautious, u never know wht u dnt know
