I have tried removing all my games from the PC and also removing soma data from the E drive but it is to no avail.
Does it also mention a stack error? well mine guess wud be that u using too much resources (which cant b solved by removing games or data), u can try to find how much memory is it taking whn it getting booted, tht will giv idea of how many resource hungry apps are munching their way in ur sys. Also try to get ur registry trimmed down and remove progs that u use rarely (after keeping a dump) another option is to reinstall ur XP over present one, it may b that some imp sys file was tampered by some s/w or got corrupted, installation over prev one maintains ur OS as-is and reinstalls sys files. see if it works

hi - 07-06-2005, 04:46 PM

Hi

Try running a program called ad-aware as i feel there cud be a lot of spyware eating into yr memory resources.

Also if the previous option does not work try upgrading memory by abt 128MB. it shud solve.
tks

two reasons for the blue screen of death (as uRmad put it :wink

corrupt installation, and pirated winXP CD

the screen occurs more frequesntly in case of pirated CD's beacuse they have to work around the "Activate Windows" file. ur system might not even have a msconfig.exe file because of it. so..missing file leads to error

or bad HDD

corrupt HDD sectors do a wonderful job of shutting down windows when u boot. so..try n defagment the drive. if it doesnt get defragmented..its prolly corrupted. say hi to a new disc then

P.S> as usual jas had all the answers...eh! jas

Fear not. Copy 'my documents' to some other location. The rest will stay in place. U can upgrade Xp to Xp (home to pro, pro to home, pro to pro, home to home, sp xyz to sp xyz edition).

Usual disclaimers follow. . The above statements are based on the author's personal experience of messing around incorrigibly and repeatedly with the registry and system files and services settings and then setting them right by 'upgrading' the OS or sometimes reinstalling it. I've learnt through trial and error. I hope you learn through trial coz the error might be painful all 'da best.

P.S. there will be a request to format the system partition. Be careful and look at the screen during the installation and choose NOT TO FORMAT the partition to avoid heartburn.

Not exactly.....You cannot "upgrade" from pro to home or sp2 to sp1.....M$ treats Pro as an advanced version of XP Home and consequently, that would be a downgrade which it doesn't allow...Similarly the case with service packs...SP2 wont allow you to install SP1 over it..... Check this page and this page out

A possible solution to the issue could lie in re-installing Win2k....Remember, win2k has been, by far, THE best OS ever to come out of MS's factories...okie...save MSDOS .....It rarely, if ever, has issues like file corruption, unless of course they are the result of h/w issues or the result of botched up uninstallers....or better still, crappy p2p s/w ANd no, copying files from other win2k systems wont help ya....The installation customizes loadsa files as per the h/w and s/w on ur PC...

Read up a LOT before you actually do that....Inspite of all that the mags or tux enthusiasts may say, installing/configuring/running linux for a longtime-windows user isn't exactly a stroll in the park n/w connectivity wise, it works gr8....Of-course, that is only after you've managed to get everything else right

But yea, you could Edit all your MS-Office files using star office or other equivalent packages....

I dint coin that phrase...That was/is one of THE most popular phrases that continues to haunt Micro$oft A very basic g00gle search throws up over a quarter million results for that

LOL....Dontcha shift the blame on the excellent coders out there who prepare the workarounds...They work like a charm...

Cheers
