See apart from facilities, coaching and motivation

It has also to do with our climate and genes

Ours is a hot & humid country (unlike USA, Russia which have low temp). So beacuse of humid nature we feel tired soon.

Also our genes are not as well developed (in terms of stamina and physical strength ) as Africans or Negros.

But anyways India rules when it come to brain power and that's what matter most "bhais badi ya aakal " answer is obvious.

Re: Sad state of Sports in India!! Can we improve? How? - 26-03-2007, 06:16 PM

the reasons which I find for the pitiable state of our sports are
a) lack of govt interest
b) lack of funds
c) lack of middle class interest in making there kids sports person

seriously I think that the single most important reason for this state is the third reason and if we look at countries like US they have schols for people in sports we have the same in India also but are they really as good as in other countries = ur guess is as good as mine

so first we should start from the basic level and ensure that budding athletes get reco and schols from junior level and then only we can go on and have state of art facilities which should be made available to DESERVING people without political influence

as to how to get funds is simple each cricketer who signs a deal for any agency has to give 50% to help other sports

1) funding cant be the reason for this sad state otherwise we would have won 3-4 Cricket WC by now ( considering that 70- 80 % of money in world cricket is just of India).

2) govt intervention - its there at all places. But that cant be the reason for our performance . Look at pakistan. they are the factory of best fast bowlers in the world.

3) middle class - that' s the same cond'n in every developing country (remember cricket is the game of poor countries ). Shane bond has started his cricketing career late as he was not feeling secured in cricket and joined the police in newzealand. So in a rich country like new zealand also you dont have much promotion for sports.

ok by funding I meant the schols being given at lower levels also the facilities given to young kids (it being accessiable to normal junta)

u can't counter that if we don't have sth y not create situations where it gets created whats the harm in doing that y not create incentives for it
and by the way if our middle class gets involved it will have a much larger impact we are more than a billion so my reasoning is give people incentive from the start and u will see results...

one way to improve sports in our country is to encourage kids to play more and also inspire them to take up different kids of sport.
i feel its very sad that parents tend to focus so much on academics and see sports as an unneeded activity.
its true that education is needed, but when a kid is in school its no point pushing him so hard that, he spends most of his time studying.
after all, i personally feel that marks scored in school, does not help u much while pursuing higher education or getting into a good company.
i guess thats where the positive attitude has to begin

there are other things in our country which are in need of funding more than this time pass.

there are situation if given more attention will give us more rewards.

and what do u want to show the world by winning some cups. And even then if u are so eager do it like hitlers way ( remember 1936 olympic). First conquer the world and then it will be u who will always win no matter who the opponents are .And bat and ball cant conquer the world for u.

So do what we are best at

Why not start winning olympiad gold every year
Why not start wining each and every noble prize in eco, chem , phy, med etc

bhai there are certainly more thgs that need attention but also see that rise of major global players in the world arena has been simultaneous with their rise in sports it gives u a lot of confidence if nth else and I am talking abt encouraging all sports not only cricket...

why not get this confidence in maths phy chem

look at the sad state. no one wants to go for research in basic sciences ( maths, phy, chem) which are so imp for any nation to grow. Reason lack of funding

so instead of diverting funds there divert them where they are actually need
