however...in ODIs due to running out of overs, this term has been debatably used to define a player carryin his bat thru the innings....

in the first condition, it was grant flower in '94...tht is acc. to true cricketin definitions...

acc. to the debatable ones...david lloyd was the first...way back in '74...

umm...i tried to get tickets fr this match...but considerin the way...the match panned out...i was happy i missed out...

neways....i just want to say that this pitch was black...cos kotla was under construction at that time...and had been relayed using black clay soil...due to the unpreparedness of the pitch...it turned black...the outfield was also particularly slow...

it was just becos of the adhesives that the pitch held on to the match being completed...

during the same 6 match series...india was leading 2-0....Younis Khan made an off th hand comment "Faisla dilli mein hoga"...n Pak went onto win 4-2..although comments like this one do show the confidence of a vice captain n a premier batsman....sometimes they can really giv hints that match fixing exists
actually india had taken a 2-0 lead n then lost the next three....trailin 2-3 they came to delhi...younis khan s quote was in this context only n none other...

Re: Cricket Trivia and Discussions.. - 04-06-2007, 02:40 AM

In an interview....Tom Moddy has come out in defence of muralitharan.....in same interview he mentions that shane warne has been the greatest leg spinner of all times....."greatest leg spinner" .....nit the greatest spinner...i think he's probably trying to say that murali is better than warne.....n warne was bets only in a particular category of spin bowling....that is pretty rare....to hear a aussie sayin sm1 from other country is better....

but i think he's not right...in my opinion....warne was the best...whether it were test matches or one dayers.....i can easily recall his match winning performances in two consecutive CWC semi-finals....against windies in 96 n against proteas in 99....in both th cases...the oppositions were running away wid the game...n warne proved to be a match winner...ppl don get to play 2 semis....n being a man of the match...is simply fabulous...

British
police has said that woolmer wasn't mudered...strange to hear this finding from british police...coz Jamaican police has been carrying out this search so far....n they cudn't conclude anything in more than 2 mnths.....

Gr8 to know that another country has appointed another young skipper....Bangladesh has named Mohammad Ashraful as the new skipper....wen wud India take a pro-acitve action like this....n this is wat the young skipper had to say...."I think age is no bar for being a successful captain. Quite a few players have led their national teams even at a younger age than me," ....."I know if I fail to deliver as a batsman, the captaincy would not mean anything. My main duty is now to score consistently in Test and one-day matches,".....that shows how much confident he is .... n he realises that as a part of a team....he needs to perform as well.....only being captain won't suffice. . n guaranttee a place in the side...kudos to him n bangla board...

i hav a differenet opinion on this one.....i also love the game....n it is quite evident wen i play...u hav cn that...wen anybody plays for a team, he/she does his best....but i want to keep my eyes n ears open....n smtimes unknowingly ppl do make comments w/o thinking abt their interpretations....n i guess this was such an instance....

hmmm.. ya.Statistically murali would always be the bradman of bowlers. But its all about winning games for your team... turning matches for ur country making a match of nothing. i hav no doubt in considering warne as the greatest spinner.. no matter how many wkts murali ends up with.
Jamaican police has messed up the issue.. reporting that it was a murder initially without any substantial proof.. if they ought to announce that he died of natural causes it would make them silly really.
As far as naming ashraful as captain.. cheers!! hope he doesnt weigh down of the captaincy..
Btw another batsman-captain. Why is it that we dont have bowler captains these days? May be bowlers already have a tougher job.

Bowlers are not in the team as much as they'd like to be because of injuries. Thus a batsman who has more chances of being regular in the team is chosen as the captain. This of course is my own view, but I think it makes sense looking at the injures sustained by bowlers.

Ya.. what u say is damn right for quickies. But spinners play as regularly as batsman if not better. Have a feeling warne could have made a good captain

Shane warne was the vice captain and they were gonna make him the captain, but he ruined his own chances.
Other point about spinners is that their playing a match depends a lot on the kind of surface the pitch offers. I think Vettori is probably one spinner who plays regularly. BTW, any idea who is the current captain of NZ after Fleming resigned?

A replacement is not yet announced. Given his experience Vettori would be mostly made the captain for now i feel.

i think it was there in news also...right after flem resigned....news channels reprted that Vettori i tipped to be new new zealand skipper...a new captain for new zealand after a long time....

If v look a few years back....in 2003, pollock captained proteans in CWC 03, so did waqar in same tourney....apart from a few teams like Australia, India, Lanka...most of teams have hav had few fast bowlers as captains....even v had kapil paaji but that was quite a few years back....

i guess icaptaincy doesn't hav much to do with ur cricketing speciality...it's about ur acumen for the game....btu v havn't cn too many spinners leading their sides....i can recall venkat raghvan, bishen singh bedi from india....n may be richie benaud....n list is pretty short...

i beleive warne wud hav made a gud captain....
