What's the problem ?

CAT @NIGHT...c'mon night-out studs was closed because it makes no sense to discuss the topic. Just think over it that in the end u r gonna get n number of posts like "Yah, I like to study at night .. I wud like to appear for CAT that time". The end result is a meaningless thread which has no quality. Think about it.

Bollywood recasted was another spammer's paradise where one user is called a hero in one post and a villain in another. X is <blah><blah>, etc etc.. What is the meaning of such posts? The actors potray a different role in each movie and you cannot generalize on any actor to a forum member! That's my take on it.

why are the mods so high-handed. why cant there be a bit of time-pass, especially if its in the correct forum ?

I know users feel very offended when their thread is locked but as a mod I have to keep a check on the number of un-useful posts. This "time-pass" becomes uncontrollable after sometime and to control the number of spam posts we have to lock the thread as we cannot monitor this 24x7. We never stop you for any useful discussion. The thread should have the quality and not just quantity with one liner posts. Think about this as a moderator.

Some people just need to overhaul the meaning of chit-chat.

Chit - Chat Relax , unwind and make friends. Talk about anything you wish. Its time to lay back and relax. Small talk - Chit Chat. You don't even have to make sense.
Don't take this underlined line as it is. You have to make some sense after-all.

i made a 'help' post in the forum, asking for suggestions and help from fellow puys. then i noticed the career avenues help thread, and posted the same thing there. the mods promptly locked my first post. here i was, in genuine need of advice, and they locked my post for 'double posting'.

Opening a thread with the title 'help' does no good to you. The title should denote the purpose of the thread. It is suggested that you post the same query only once in the relevant section, members would come and help you out.

I am sure, mods will close down this thread soon too!!

thanks for atleast being open about what is being said. as far as your replies go, they do NOT explain anything. IMHO, NONE of the justifications hold any water, and are just evasive.



what you havent answered is why cant we have meaningless posts ? if they have been posted in the correct forums, then why not ? and why should the mods have the right to decide what is quality and what isnt ? and why should there have to be quality? why cant we be just mediocre for some time ? your take on it can be bloody well anything. why impose it on others. you dont agree, you dont post. simple. we want to waste our time, what's your problem ? why do you have to keep a check on 'un-useful' posts, if they are in time pass forums like chit-chat ?

if you dont want to take the meaning of that line literally, then change it. we are not very bright, so we couldnt realise that you meant something opposite of whats stated.

i did NOT just post with 'help' as the topic. i was quite clear. and i did NOT double post. one post was in the career avenues thread, where i was asking for help specifically from amit. it would be kind of stupid if OTHERS gave me advice on that thread na ? which is why i started a new thread for it.

and could you please explain why there should be a thread which asks people their cat centres ? people were already doing that in the cat admit card status thread. and how is a 'happy budday' post useful ?

and why would so many people groan at you if what you were doing was correct? i should have been getting the groans for this these posts of mine, if that was the case.

answers, answers, mahip. talk about the main issues raised, dont ignore them. not too much to expect, i hope....... from the posts above yours, i have a sinking feeling it is too much....

Being the largest MBA forum, we have to monitor the posts and threads which run across varous sections. Plently of meaningless posts and threads would make this place look very ordinary, which it is not. Remember that chit-chat is not a place where you can just talk of any nonsense thing.. there are clients, college profs, alumni, etc etc who read posts here.. any irrelevant-useless thread gives a bad impression about the place. Hope you understand. And if not mods then who else will decide about such threads? I might sound very harsh sometimes, but it is all in making this place more clean.

CAT Centre thread was part of PG strategy to get to know a complete list of CAT centres so that we can market ourselves accordingly. Also, junta at same centres can meet after the exam and discuss the paper.
B'day is a special occasion in a person's life and all the folks who have contributed to the forum are acknowledged and greeted with the thread. Now don't call a B'day greeting as useless.

Don't forget the Thanks as well. I groan at any post which I dislike or see as spam. You also have the right to do so and it's welcome. Being a mod, it's very obvious to get many groans.

ok.... then remove the chit-chat forum. just have serious forums. obviously there is going to be non-serious stuff in chit-chat. even the 'esteemed' visitors will understand that.

This is no way to justify groans.

Saddam hussein used to win the presidential election with 99 % votes. So do you tgink he is there true leader and US is just a mindless bully who just want to eliminate a nice guy.

And Mr Mahip if you want to look it in a better way then look at the groan to thanks ratio. ( In industry profit is desired, but what matters is profit /revenue ratio same way here- after all its a mangement forum).

And you are mod okay. Before graoning at your posts people will think twice but that's not the case with other users. Any user even without reading his posts can groan at him.

Even if the post has substance but just because it has something against their perceived point of view I was groaned. Same goes with thanks. And don't think that majority is always right. Good example for that is our own country which favours majority. And don't forget "an honest person is always alone".

I read the whole thread almost thrice and i am still unclear on this, are we voicing our opinion on Moderation at PG or at a Moderator on PG. Guys, i have never been a frequentie at Chit-chat untill very soon, but then i must tell ya, there is a huge difference between moderation on XAT (where i am lil frequent) and here..! No point takin this post personally. May be this helps modertaions. ( I mean it!)

Dude, u knw what..! We are a democratic society and we live for each other. And nw that u have been wrkin and most of us have a taste of life, the idea behind a feedback or a Groan or a Thank is nt to have a star or point in the kitty. I am sure PG had some intentions while puttin a Graon tab. If people keep on thankin me, it means they want me to go on posting like that.
