Radio fans anyone!? Your Fav radio station? -
07-11-2006, 09:43 PM
Hey Folks!!
Radio was once a forgotten means of communication a few years ago but the FM mania has picked up this sector to new heights. Every now then we see new FM stations popping up in big as well as small towns across India. Radio Jockey's have even become theme of so many Bollywood movies now.. be it Rang De Basanti, Salam Namaste or even Lagey Raho Munnabhai! Truely a booming sector!
Mobile fones integrated with radio and cheap-n-small pocket radios have become a new trend specially in the young crowds! Even I listen to various channels while travelling across the city, atleast 1 hr in a day! It has become a part of life and you can always be updated about news, traffic situation, sports updates, gossips, etc etc.
So what is your favourite radio station? It must be surely the one which you devote max time whenever you are hooked on to the radio set. Participate in the poll and also pour in your comments about this industry.

Actually, I noe prefer listening to the newer FM channels as they play more music compared to the Mirchi, Red FM etc... 95FM and Fever FM ( both delhi ) are current favs.. Less RJ interference.. More Music
Please, Lord, let me prove that winning the lottery won't spoil me.

World space is good too. lots of channels for all tastes and great sound quality. Only the internal antennae ive got bugs me as there is no window in the requisite direction. Costs can be prohibitive too.. however, quality makes up for it!!

Yeah, I saw some of the ads of these new channels saying -
"No Recipes" , "No Jokes".. "Only Music".
Haven't got a chance to hear World Space Radio!
There is a lack of English Radio Channels in India, basically Metros.. Initially Go92.5 FM in Mumbai was mostly broadcasting English Songs but now even that has gone "Full Bollywood" ways like others. It has also been renamed as RadioOne. Sadly, not many people listen to English Songs!

Whatever little i have heard of WorldSpace, it has impressed me too... but my source of FM is 80% on my mobile where worldspace is not avaiable (yet ?) and 20 while driving.
But worldspace is definately very good... especially Radio Farishta :bigups:

Hardly any replies!!!
No one listens to the radio kya?
As far as worldspace is concerned.....doesn't really make sense in india - firstly paying for the machine and then for monthly renewals....
But with the govt. opening up a lot more frequencies....radio would definitely boom in the coming 3-5 years.....and so would radio advertising!

The renewal is not monthly ........It is 500Rs quarterly and believe me it is well worth the investment. The set would cost you 1500 and if you want speakers...it will cost you extra. I hooked up my PC's speakers to the radio .

My favourite radio station is the one which is playing a song when I switch it on i hate those RJs talking on trivial issues (i liesten when they are talking abt serious issues like the domestic violence bill and all) and killing away time. but no doubt, these FM channels have indeed brought back the forgotten radio to everyone's life

@amit - well amit its commercially available in the market.....u have to buy the set and the speakers seperately...the starting range is arnd 1500 i guess......u have to then purchase a subscription pack (available as quarterly/half-yearly /yearly subscriptions).....i guess its 1800 bucks for an yearly subscriptions....get the installation done and voila its ready for ur use
WSR certainly rocks......i mostly hear to radio farishta and radio jhankar......my only stress buster after i return from the office
the only drwaback of WSR is dat its not portable and the antennae has to be fixed in a certain direction only for the reception....but these drwabacks are easily negated by an excellent service, great channels and an amazing clarity!
P.S:- wud hv never known so much about WSR...but thanks to my company...got it as a gift as a part of its 10 yr celebration pgm
