computer virus and pop up problems - 09-05-2006, 10:13 PM

Hi guys, as per the rules for starting a new thread i searched deligently (really) the site for a thread on how to solve virus and pop up problems but did not find one.
how about talking about problems associated with your PC and discussing the solutions....

To start it...i have a major problem....
1) my net gets connected on its own and opens my web brouser with some add sites
2) i get zillion pop ups mostly the flash ones.
3) My comp is so slow that even windows explorer takes a few seconds to open.

i tried a few softwares like windows spyware cleaner and a few more but of no use.
CAN ANY OF YOU COMU BRAINS HELP ME OUT.
p.s. please tell me about free ware only

Download hijack this.

Go to http://forums.subratam.org/

You will see under security a thread called hijackthis logs and malware removal. Post your hijack this registry in that section. Spyware experts will reply back telling you to fix certain registries using hijack this. Very easy process and your problem will be solved.

I know how painful it is because i have been through. Dont worry. Follow what i told you.

Dear Tandav...

All I can surmise from this is that your PC has been taken over by about half a dozen spyware programs.
Nothing can be done about this, as most of these programs can avoid detection by freeware AVs, and many major paid AVs like symantec as well.

For your sake, the only procedure I can give you is this:
1. Disconnect your phone line from the modem if you use dialup, or LAN cord if you use it.
2. Backup all your data into another hard disk, preferably a clean one, preformatted.
3. Make a list of all softwares that you use, like Office, Adobe, Word, 3DMax, etc.
4. Format your Hard disk. If not the whole thing, the one where Windows & other programmes are installed.
5. Reinstall Windows and the other software.
6. DO NOT VISIT PORN, CRACK, OR WAREZ SITES. These are the primary sources of spyware downloads.

With Regards,
Grondmaster

Hi tandav,
Sorry to disappoint u, but there's thread called Computer Queries
and it could be posted there... Anyway, i guess, u might have accidently installed some softwares/toolbars which would have adwares/spywares

If u are connected to the internet, first disconnect .. Then u can run spywares like adaware, system mechanic also has it... if u have sp2 installed, then microsoft's antispyware is the best... u can get them from www.softpedia.com

Goto add/remove programs and see.. which all toolbars/unwanted programs are there... remove them... u can download google toolbar.. it has a pop-up blocker, which can block all the pop-ups!

@ Tandav my suggestion is keep ur windows update if ur using xp then try to get the new version which 05 or 06 edition which have sp2 inbuilt in them and they r faster as comparision to installing sp2.

use antivirus like norton corporate edition which does not take a toll on memory usage.

if want to visit the warez and porn site they do it by making another user with limited power.
