To quote someone else's t-shirt, 'Viginity has got to be the most overrated virtue'
Personally I would rather have a woman whos done her experimenting with other men before she meets me than have her be with me for 4 years and then her deciding to experiment.
That would be BAD...

Re: Wasnt Khushboo right -

Ok first things first, moi a Tam in Saddi dilli, so the other end of the story. The Kushboo controversy is a political and not a cultural one. I am sure it would have been mallika sherawat or rani mukherjee had they taken on politicians here. Kushboo was made to pay for her sin of speaking against a certain leader who responded with his full might when he got that little chance. Similarly the "Tamil" culture has been beckoned one too many times by politicians with no other issue at hand. And since polticos run the bloody engineering colleges down there, every college has to suffer the bloody repression. But frankly this issue primarily boils down to a generation gap-plain and simple. Very few Indian mothers be it Mumbai, Delhi or Patna would really be cool to the idea of pre marital sex. We are just coming to terms with the change that is engulfing us. We will eventually find a balance between our real culture and our practical culture. This however wouldn't be same all over India I suspect given the bloody differences every state has from another. So Delhi might already be there with its video-phones and Times of India. Kanyakumari and Itanagar might just take time.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win

interesting thread. good that somebody brought up the discussion.
well, i think we indians love to live in denial. closing your eyes to something doesnt mean that that thing has stopped existing.
when some one tries to show us what we dont wanna accept, we get offended.
the whole episode left me shocked , being a feminist, i was amazed to see that even in my country women cant speak up their minds freely.
i was critisizing bangladesh the other day for exilibg taslima nasrin coz she wrote what she believed in, but really, india is not far behind.

I think we sometimes rather mostly act as ostriches, we dig our head into the ground , and assume that there is no such trouble going on .......
I agree with a person there , who said that I if one isnt a virgin , one shouldnt also expect a virgin ...
but it really depends on the individual , who would be able to accept a non virgin partner , when the individual is a virgin ....
also should one talk abt this virginity issue before marriage , if the other person has very strong views on the subject , then isnt it better to let the other person know ur status , if I may say so .....
Or one should not share everything abt the past ... I personally would like to come clear of my past , before going for this ..

Re: Wasnt Khushboo right -

its just unfortunate that there hasnt been a single comment from a guy from Tamilnadu... first and foremost..the main reason why people didnt support khusboo was because khusboo herself made a director of a tamil movie whose name was Thankar Bachan apologise for making perfectly valid though misinterpreted statements.... he was made to apologise in a pathetic state of affairs with the actor(mainly heroines) community boycotting shooting for 2 days... eventually when he did apologise, most of them settled for it but Kushboo though tried to act too smart by rejecting his apology and by making inappropriate comments.. i guess this hampered her support amongst the political class as well as to the chennai-ites who form the majority of her supporters.. When she faced the same situation, noone supported her but felt she deserved it for what she did to thankar bachan..
My personal comment: I too feel that Kushboo's comments were taken out of context and misinterpreted and misused by political elements.... But in this state, which has the most dictatorial politicians (they've actually managed to implement CAS here... they say that its enough if Tamilians can watch Tamil channels alone.. the rich ones can watch with the set top box... can ya believe it..) and dravidian ideologies still at large., i dont think people actually like having these fools (politicians)... people are sooooo sick and tired (atleast the educated middle class here) that they mostly ignore these as****es completely... But yeah, some solidarity must be shown towards her.. But she would have got it had she not acted dumbly in the Thankar Bachan episode... she ruined her image by acting too smart...
PS: But i feel that Suhasini crossed the line and must have known to hold her tongue before making generalised comments upon tamilians....

Wht Khusboo said is right or not..Its no one's Business to interpret it and compell her by all means to apologise....When we recollect the media coverage about this issue,a poor old mother questioned how can they bring up their daughters when such a popular personality gives unethical views about the tamil culture!Hello! The same grown up daughters also get influenced by the films and real life incidents they happen to see. After a certain age, both guys and gals need to be let independant to do what ever they wish and they have to face the consequences. The parents can ONLY GUIDE.I personally feel the basic family structure in India....(A united family even after the children's marriage..taking care of old parents..) has to be maintained and NOTHING ELSE..
