Laser Treatment for Eyesight Correction - 04-02-2006, 10:15 PM

Hi,

Have any of you undergone a laser surgery for correction of eye power? It would be of great help if someone can provide me with the pros and cons of such treatment.

Regards,
Sourav

Yes Saurav, i have undergone laser treatment for eye side... My power earlier was 6.5 for both eyes... Well basically the operation is simple... Initially, they check ur cornea thickness and then tell u whether u can undergo this operation or not. In my case, the cornea thickness was just a little less, so i still use specs with a minor power of 1

Once they do that, all they need to do is operate in ur eyes using laser. The cornea has 5 layers and they re-shape the 3rd layer to make a sort of lens in the eye itself and correct ur vision. The process is very easy.

The only catch is that this process is irreversible..i.e. whatever they do the effects are permanent.... I wouldnt be giving u false data, but the result is NOT 100% ... it is only some 99.something %age successful and hence they make u sign before operation that if anything goes wrong in the operation, they shudnt be held liable.

But i took the minor risk and went ahead... If u are planning to go, first see that the hospital is a big one and the doc is a famous one who has performed many such operations in the past... After the operation, u shouldnt face any problem except little blurring for the 1st few days....

I haven't faced any problems and except that my eye-sight is having a little power, my complete dependency on glasses is gone...

I hope this info should suffice... In case, u need to contact me or ask something else.... PM me... then i will give u my phone number...

p.s. i am staying in cochin right now and i got operated at Dr. agarwal in Chennai.

Re: Laser Treatment for Eyesight Correction - 12-02-2006, 10:25 PM

I had eye problem (L:+1/-4 & R:+2/-5).
The spects was so heavy .... and it used to create a lot of pain in my nose.
So I had decided to have my eyes operated.
Doctor said that it was impossible to remove the powers completely due to my budget constrains.
But at the end of the operation .... My powers were reduced to almost nill.
Even the doctor was also shocked !!!!
I was in 12th std. at that time ..... now my vision is almost perfact.
I don't need any spects at all .... just can't see as clear as they ppl with perfact eye-vision can.
Now I am working in night shifts ..... and I spend my whole night in front of PC only..... but still no probs.
So I would suggest u to go ahead.

well... 30k seems to be okie.... but i guess u can bargain another 3-4k from their agents.... well there are no cons as such.... except that the process is irreverssible... that means whatever once done has been done.... can't go back/revert it. yeah, i forgot to add one thing, that ur power needs to be stable for atleast an year... Escorts and Apollo are gud in delhi.... in chennai, i would say agarwal is gud (its on cathedral rd near stella maris)

Regd the insurance, well it is a toughie, but if u can talk to the doctor/agents, they can make a bill for something which would be covered by ur company.... well that's how my dad, worked out the cost... It shouldn't be tough, as they are just concerned with the money and don't mind for whatever u take the bill..... check with ur company to see which all things u are insured for....

One just has to take care a few things after the operation.... it is not to stress the eyes too much, not to expose them too much in the sun, wear protective glasses to protect them from dust... and apply the drops regularly...........
