Mumbai Blasts.....Food for thought??? - 26-08-2003, 10:50 PM

Most certainly, we haven’t heard the last of the ghastly attacks, which reduced the “Gateway of India” to the “Gateway of Terror”.

Reams of Paper, an eternity of prime time television, indeed, a never-ending list of portals would be dedicated towards discussing the aftermath of this cardinal, cold-blooded act.

In the same vein, yours truly also got carried away within 30 minutes of the blasts and then followed every bit of print, television and the net rumblings. I’ve felt like an absolute rebel for a good 30 hours now.

And then, suddenly there was a brain wave. For all I thought, that there is no thought behind such bloody attacks and that they were incredibly preposterous in targeting women and children, I paused for a moment.

No, I did not think. Not at all. The same feeling of a rebel that I’ve been experiencing for more than a day now gave way to answer. Mind Boggling?? Read on.

When I, a good five hundred miles away from the stage of terror could feel the shivers running down my spine. When it scares the living daylights out of me. When I feel hurt, sad, vengeful, indeed vindictive at the same time, do I have the courtesy to spare a thought as to what could have been the root-cause of such a deadly act.

I might be wrong, absolutely dwarfed. And as I say what I do, I still detest these barbaric acts. But sample this.

In the riots, that marred the state of Gujarat, there were countless Muslims (the caste is stated only to drive home the point effectively) who lost their families, kinship and more.
Men were clouted to death, children battered heartlessly. But there was a pregnant woman, (perhaps many more) who was shoved in her womb. Murder! No! Not at all!
Brutal, sadistic and most Chauvinistic. When you consider that the woman might have been plainly killed as the others. Not that death by itself is acceptable. But the manner of the death certainly gives a lifetime of nightmares.

I just assume here, and I dare say, a very possible assumption at that, one member of such a family would have survived the attack. What will he think??? Or for that matter, will he be able to think at all even if he wants to??. None of us here can ever fathom what would have been his thought process. Indeed pain, like happiness can be felt only on the person it is inflicted upon.

And what if that person, in a pure fit of rage, sheer pain, boundless revenge does something like what we experienced yesterday afternoon. For one, he wouldn’t be conscious of what he is doing.

Not that he would care less about how many people were killed, indeed, how many of them were Gujratis, Marathis or even plain Muslims!

In all fairness, he hasn’t lost a member of his community; he has lost someone from his little world, someone he loved dearly, someone whom he wanted to be there for all his life, someone responsible for his very existence.

This is not an attempt to understand the psyche of such an individual. Nor is it an attempt to justify what he has done.

This is a poignant portrayal of how crime will endlessly lead to more crime, of how blood will but obviously give way to more blood shed and attempts made at ending a precious life will only end us terminating ours.

Lets remember the lines of the timeless Tagore “Every Child Brings The Message That God Is Not Yet Tired Of Man”.

Please, Please, for heavens and for goodness sake lets not try to test his patience to giddy limits. Amen.

Well Said my friend. But there are countless idiots all over the world who think such things are jokes. You can change their attitude because of their thick skulls and frozen minds. It was a sad day in Mumbai considering the fact I was about 20 kilometres away from Gateway. But now life is back to normal. Thatz the good thing about Mumbai. It absorbs everything and bounces right back into Cruise Control.

Hey Guy....

Guess what.. i actually read this passage twice to fathom as to what u were saying... the point is very unclear.. maybe its me. but.. well... are u saying that.. a man/ men behind these blasts are getting back...a vengeance...

If it is.. well, no amount of words/ ink will justify sucha a sacrilegious act. u are def right when u say that... Crime Begets Crime.... no way out.. but when will this vicious cycle end... when the whole humanity is annihilated from the surface of the earth.

Well, one thing that really intrigues me about the whole mechanism is that... without any abosolute proof.... any hints... Pakistan comes to the fore front.. why is it.. whenever a bomb blasts.... anywhere in india... the finger points hideously at our neighbour... At one plane, we are talking about broadening horizon.. strengthing bonds... redifining mindsets.... talks about a a group of indian teenagers making "dosti" with their pakistani counter parts... a small pakistani girl getting a heart operation... well.. everything is hunky dory till the next EXPLOSION - .....

Why does it finally boil down to hindus/ muslims/ christians/ sikhs... parsis.. whatever.... arent we all here with one common purpose... share the same kinda problems day in & day out.... then, why are we bothered about the distinction... more than the individual... why does the community face the wrath... MINDLESS BLOODY BATH!!!

anyways... as i said... i really didnt understand what u were saying but these are just my feelings.....

Simba

I guess my views will only be as clear as the motive behind such acts....
That apart....I am not trying to justify those heinous crimes........all i m tryin to say is....a person affected by such things...mite jus come back........and can u blame him?? No justifications frend....but somebody...who s died a thousand deaths..point blank...........can u blame him??
