[quote=midnite_blues;1113051]FIFA has officially scrapped the chip-in-ball technology... after nearly four years or so (not so sure) of fiddling with it... though goalposts lighting up is a good idea... but the surface area of a football being much larger than that of a hockey puck, i doubt if it will be really successful... especially with the rule being that atleast half of the ball should cross the line...
a correction required
the rule is ball should completely cross the line....the chip technology was scrapped because it wasn't accurate enough.....
the ice hockey like rule will not work as correctly pointed by Midnite Blue, because in ice hockey we don't see goal line clearances ..
to me the best way is to stop the game and consult the fourth ref, who in turn can have a look at the replay and give his verdict...
also it would be really helpful to referees if camera's are installed in the goal post and the bar, it would help when players block the view of linesman or cameras near corner flags...

That technology you mentioned was scrapped 6 months back. FIFA scrapped it coz it made the ball too wierd and some other complications
PS: Didn't read midnight's's post... ya, that too

Spurs spent a lot n are still spending...are they any closer ???!!!
So, I dont think its fair to say Liverpool are not progressing....its like accusing Massa of being slow to Kimi ( assuming Kimi has the better race engineer, better car n all that..!!)
It is tough sticking to Man Utd and Chelsea, and if Liverpool has done that consistently, then they need to be appreciated..!!
P.S: Reina in running for the golden glove....he has one more than david james....with one match to go....though I dont think he's the best...Cech has been superb in all the key games..!!!

Dude, what are you talking about? I never said, or meant to say, Liverpool is non progressing. the entire reply was to Jokerabout Torres. Entire point of it was
Petrovs Impact to City > Torres Impact to 'Pool
PS: Reina doesn't deserve the glove. Even Van Der Sar has been better. The number of flaps i've seen in key matches from him....
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Unless you're Man Utd, in which case you let the other teams get ahead and then start sprinting as they all fall apart.

Weird logic I must say! If you look at respective teams on paper, which is what I understand when you say 'quality', Liverpool are nowhere in the top 5 in Europe. Else, where would you place teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Inter, Lyon and Bayern. For me, they have too many average players not befitting of a huge club like Liverpool. Its not as if they don't have funds, nor do they avoid splashing money aka Wenger, but they don't have enough quality players on the pitch.
Regards.

Hmm....mate quality lies on the pitch and not "paper"...this is not some fantasy football we are playing..!!!
As for the "top" sides u mention, Liverpool has beated Barcelona, Inter, Milan, Bayern ( uefa super cup) and Arsenal....so if you doubt the logic of them being a top 5 club, then u gotta check ur logic..!!!

City have conceded more than they have scored. they have conceded 45. They conceded 3 against Fulham. anything but steady, their defence is. Plus, Elano hasn't scored since the past few MONTHs now. Dude that way, i too can bring in stufflike, Torres has scored only 4 out of his 30 goals away from Anfield the entire season!!! Does that mean Torres is not as good as made out to be?

Huh???? Quality on the pitch is how the discussion started. Again ill repeat. 4 in the BPL. Semis in Europe. Remember that Besiktas and Marsielle defeated Liverpool. Roy's point was that considering the money that is spent there just isn't enough quality to compete with United, Chelsea, etcetc...
PS: Liverpool defeated Barca LAST season, if i rememeber correct
PPS: This is not an attack on Liverpool.

I'd like to both agree and disagree with you here. Agreed, quality lies on the pitch, and not on paper. However, beating the best teams in the world is not what makes us better than them. All I'd say was that we were better than them on the day we played them. That's what counts.
For instance, in 2005, we didn't have a team that was of very high quality on paper, or on the pitch. In the final, we were trailing 3 goals to nil. But, we won, because, we played better football that day. Otherwise, that Milan side was one of the strongest in Europe. So, let's not argue in favour of or against us (or others) being the strongest.
P.S. It is with great difficulty that I have written this post to try and present a neutral view. Otherwise, to me personally, Liverpool will always be the best football club, ever.

Don't get me wrong, I know what fantasy football is all about (and I am pretty good at that !), and I know here to draw the line between this and the real kind of football, but nevertheless, I doubt whether Club A can be regarded as above Club B in the pecking order just because A has defeated B, without taking into account which team is consistently better. City did the double over United, does that mean they are better than United ? I seriously doubt people would take that kinda logic seriously. And yeah, football exists outside England. Please do not discount that fact.
Regards.

Hmm...it is very difficult comparing teams from different leagues apart from drawing conclusions from Champions league..!!
If ppl talk abt Besiktas and Marseille, guess we can talk abt Rosenborg ( Chelsea draw), and some Russian clubs who occasionally upset the likes of Milan n co...!!
Me not saying Liverpool is the best though, just that the bar for premier league is increasing every year...and you have top notch managers at the top clubs with funds over 50 million...so Im happy that we are just able to keep pace with them...!!
yeah as usual, deadwood shall be cleared again this year....n hopefully a more compact squad shall emerge next season...!!!
