@Mike, Is it really that bad when you see that Arsenal are through to the Champions League Final?

Middlesborough by those standards aren't all that bad. I actually like the way the club is setup(Mclaren is boring and generally a very sad person but that is a different thing). It is one of the few teams which does consistently well at the Youth FA Cup level in last 5 years or so(Man Utd being the only which does that on a consistent basis). Ofcourse they have spent quite a sum of money but they aren't that bad a team(Imagine Man City in the finals (I know you are laughing))

Anyway UEFA Cup has lost its meaning(importance) in the new pattern(since the last 10-12 years) and even the name Champions League is a bit of a misnomer(it is neither a league nor is the competition of Champions)

Anyway that means I will be rooting for an English team in an European final (didn't imagine that would happen so soon )

Finally, yes, I know for a fact that Arsenal fans will never accept what I say, since their loyalty is with Arsenal. But there is no way in Hell that I can accept Arsenal as even among the top 10 teams in Europe.

Just answer the following two questions.

1) What according to you is a good football club?
2) Can you name the top 10 clubs in Europe?

This is a deliberate attempt to exclude Arsenal from the list. Had there been Chelsea in your list I would have been happy but why Liverpool? Anyways I am much satisfied with your other rankings except for Ajax and Lyonn(of course Liverpool as well). And more importantly you did not answer my first question. In fact, the questions I have asked are inter- related.

How many times have Chelsea won the UCL ?!! Its only after the Roman-era that Chelsea are taken for granted as a "big" club. Else till 2000, there was no diff b/w Chelsea, Spurs, Man City and Aston Villa!

come on now mave!!!!!! even if we dont like the fact that chelsea have unlimited cash, courtesy roman, still they would make the top clubs list!!!!! agreed they were mid-table material before that money and jose took over!!!! but even with claudio ranieri they did manage a second spot although roman hadnt spent millions then!!!!!

surely they deserve to make the top 10 list mod!!!!!:satisfie:

Re: Bigoted views about football clubs - 28-04-2006, 04:14 PM

There has been a lot of hoopla lately, surrounding how Arsenal and 'Boro have been "lucky" to reach the finals of both of europe's major club chamionships.

Firstly, those teams collectively have played a lotta football to reach there, on occasion have straddled the space between brillant and pedestrian, but they have reached there nonetheless. Let's start by giving due credit to them.

In particular, 'boro have come back to score 4 goals in a pressure 2nd leg, in 2 consecutive matches, and if anyone thinks their presence in the final is anything lesser than undeserved, then they only have their bigoted mentalities to argue that convoluted logic with.

As for Arsenal reaching the finals of the UCL, there could be no other fitting matchup for the neutrals (and for the gunner and catalan fans ). With the job Arsene Wenger has done at Arsenal since '96 this is the only important trophy missing on his C.V and he deserves it more than any other manager in Europe.

To all of you moan-ers, who lament the low levels to which football is currently plunging, and who want to watch favourites/ (so called big named teams/players) winning trophies, so that you don't have to moan about big named teams/players eating humple pie, switch sports and watch tennis exclusively.

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

Meet Hippy Bogus

no doubt boro deserve their place!!!!! twice on the trot they have overturned huge deficits!!!! we need to give them credit simply becoz what this has achieved during the season is amazing!!!! (of course by their standards!!!!) they were down in the table near the relegation zone early in the season and were missing so many players!!!!! but look how they have overturned it!!!!! and this is the same team which has beaten both chelsea and man utd at home this season!!!! not many teams can boast of that!!!!! i would be supporting boro for the uefa win no doubt!!!!!!

have reservations about arsenal though!!!! wenger has claimed ronaldinho to be the biggest threat as if we didnt kno that!!!! pretty sure, come may 17th, ronaldinho will open the arsenal defences like a tin can!!!!!! oh how i would like to see them crushed!!!!!

Whatever made you feel that I was a Michael Owen fan ? (The avatar I guess )

The Qn was about the top 10 clubs in Europe. So who has won more UCL European titles than Madrid ?
