I'm not blaming the Eduardo injury for the blip in that season O_O. After that injury our season fell apart, for God knows a lot of reasons. But that injury marked the phase of our downfall that year. That's all there is to it. o.o

Besides, being near or at the top 2 or 3 seasons ago is really a long time according to me for a club of Arsenal's calibre. I remember the season when United came 3rd in the league and all the world media and the fans went crazy saying could this be the downfall of United and all that blah. In just one season's 3rd finish. But if we look at the trophy cabinet at Arsenal, nothing to show from the men's team side since 2005. So it really does feel like a long time. And unlike any season before, this season I really do have a great feeling, one of the trophies is coming to us. So what if it's the Carling Cup? :P I have no issues.

The reason Wenger doesn't dig into his pockets for big money transfers is he believes he doesn't have to and he trusts his players and in their abilities. So far, only two such players have, you could say, betrayed him. Flamini and Hleb. In Flamini's case, many people say it's karma since we also got him in as a free agent. In Hleb's case, we were all shocked yes, but is it karma again affecting him that he hasn't had a stable career outside Arsenal now in 2 years or so? :P Not too sure about the karma logic anyway. It's just bad choices.

Wenger, by characteristic, and education-wise, is an economist. And somewhere in his head his ego of making superstars than buying them does take over. He does not believe in over-inflating the market by paying more than what is actually deserved. I don't find a problem with that. He wouldn't put up such a strong youth system in place if he wanted to go and buy some star player in the end. I stick by that logic.

Posting after a very long time..... Happy to be back....

@xtran: dude, i really don't understand where you are coming from...
Arsenal, I think are really fine today and I truly believe that they will win a trophy this year. The team is a fine blend of youngsters and experienced pros... Vermalaen has been awesome this season and the best libero in the league... Just like the one Arsene wants.... The midfield has had a good season.... And Arshavin is no pretender and can easily be called the best player in the league......

They lost the 2007-08 season because they could not handle the pressure.... The decline had started when they lost 4-0 to United in the FA Cup. And Galls, credit to him, he has reacted in the best possible way after his captaincy and for staying with Arsenal even though there was a chance to move out...

Arsene sold some of the players because they had wanted to go... Henry was seriously hampering the team and Wenger wanted the team to leave Henry's shadow and they reacted remarkably to that in the 07-08 season... where they lost the lead only because they couldn't handle the pressure of being top....
Don't even start me on Adebayor... the greedy pig who talked his way to a new contract last season and went to Man City at the blink of an eye.... Same goes for Cole....

Others were simply not good enough or were past their best....

Bad time to dismiss them, when the team seems to be on song and is finding its rhythm.

And I'm no Arsenal fan...

Cheers,
Krishna

Ask all the players in the country which club they would like to play for and 99% would say 'Manchester United'. The other 1% are liars.

Actually I wouldn't blame Adebayor completely for his departure. The fans at the stadium and everywhere else are to blame as well. No matter how highly he claims that he is as good as Henry or if he asks for more money, booing him and disowning him is no way to treat anyone when they are still playing for you. The fans that season were really pathetic. Previously, they had even booed Eboue so much so that the poor lad lost confidence completely within himself. It is understandable that the trophyless seasons add on to the fans' frustrations but there is more pressure and frustration on the players too.

Please don't talk about Adebayor and pollute the thread.I think with his recent activities,he has become the most hated figure among Arsenal fans.Well I agree that"The fans at the stadium and everywhere else are to blame as well".But it was just because of him.Let me remind few of his great comments.
If you want me to play like Henry, pay like Henry. His contrasting comments in media caused instability in the mind of Arsenal players and supporters in the beginning of 2008-09 season.Milan offer was like beyonce to me.just before crucial UCL game against Manu. His work rate started decreasing match after match. And his goal celebration in which he ran the whole field to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans and stamping on RVP is something Arsenal fans can neither forget nor forgive. And after his much needed departure team has started playing and winning beautifully and convincingly.

His celebration is a reaction to how he was treated at London. I'm not here to justify all of his actions but just saying that he did not deserve all the ill reactions and booing he received while he was still with Arsenal. He's human too and one with a big ego if I am not wrong. Everyone hates him for his celebration and the kick to van Persie's face. But maybe it was all better at the end that a person with attitude problems left us. A certain David Bentley comes to mind too.

The fans started booing him because, after "one", yeah one, good season he had started whoring himself to all the clubs in Europe in the summer of 2008. Then he signed an improved contract and did all the badge kissing stuff. The booing started when he started playing as if he was forced and as if he had lost all the interest in the game or the club. The first leg against United in the Champions league is a great example. He was sluggish and lazy.

We all know that fans are fickle.. Heck Giggs has been booed by the United fans..... They pay their hard earned money to watch u play and if u show no desire to work for the team then the fans do have the right to boo you.

No matter what you say he is a mercenary and a greedy pig.

Cheers,
Krishna

Re: Football Club - 03-11-2009, 01:36 AM

I will refuse to rate Arsenal as Title contenders, because they have very big dips. Unlike Chelsea and United, they have large dips, patches where they end up losing too many games. And this is due to their inexperience and lack of leadership. Fabregas is no leader. Compare Fabregas with Tery or Gerard. This is where they loose it and they will also by the look of it this season. Its no point scoring 5 regularly against teams when on other days u will struggle to score even (and will not even score) one and loose games. This is where Chelsea and United win. Just think of the times when United have gone into such a decline.

But this season, they look decent and best after lot of years. This is the best Arsenal team in some years. But will we be able to say this for the entire season. Because when their dip will come, they will surely not look like the best team or even a good team. Lets see if they can avoid serious dips this time around. Only then will i consider them as title contenders.

Hey you can't say that Cesc is not a leader.Definitely he lacks the firepower that Patrick Viera,Theiry Henry had.JT and Stevie G have been in their clubs for a long time and most probably they will end up in the same club.If Cesc is younger and Barcelona has been trying to unsettle him by taking emotional issues,it's not fault of Cesc.He has been vehemently denying those rumours. But Cesc has been inspirational this season. He has been among goals and assists. And he has been the best midfielder this season in Premier League till now.
And well to talk of lack of experience,I think this season Gunners have got ample experience this season with the likes of Cesc,Rosicky,RVP,Arshavin,Eduardo,William Gallas,Vermalean,Clichy,Sagna,Aluminia.I can't understand why people still think that we are inexperienced sides.Don't go on past records.Every season is a new season. And this season ,we are placed at third place 3 points behind Manu with a game left and a better goal difference. We are the contenders.

Arsenal no doubt is a good team. But i feel the problem with them is the lack of consistency Somewhat similar to that of Indian cricket team(Just watched India losing and Sachin play hero again).

Whereas other teams are pitching in their consistent performances.

.
Quite True....

also i thnk Arsenal are reliant on a couple of players and dont have adequate back-ups for them in case they get injured or exp. a dip in form.... like vermalean, fabregas, van persie(though must say was thoroughly impressed wid d young goalies they put out whn alumnia was injured)

Also it would be interesting to see how would Wenger re-shuffle his mid-field whn song goes for d african nations....
