By the way I am not teaching loyality to anyone.Neither I am comparing anyone nor I am teaching anything.
Sir Alex is definitely a great manager. But whatever I wrote was for managing a competitive squad with modest budget. Infact its not only Arsene,David Moyes is also an example.
But what Arsene did by rejecting multi million contract of Real is what loyality is all about.

Re: Football Club - 22-09-2009, 10:21 PM

Yes indeed. Arsene Wenger is one of the most respected managers of all time. His ideology of relying on his scouts to get him talent and then transforming that talent into into good players is appreciated.
And I'm not questioning that at all. David Moyes, Martin O' Neil, et al are other examples of how good managers can manage a club well even without the financial muscle that say, a City or a Real might have.

But, what irked me here was the fact that you said that Sir Alex doesn't deserve credit for getting United at the top and that it was just because he had loads of cash at his disposal. He has done what he has by utilising the money he has and the page clearly showed that if a factor was to be defined as success/money spent, United is going to be galaxies ahead of everyone else.

Football Puy's

Chill no doubt Arsene is the best! He is also one clever jackal in the transfer market !! For eg just take the case of Emmanuel Adebayor. He joined Arsenal in 2006 for £4M, 46 goals later, the former Monaco hit-man left for around six times that value. Though he is in news for diff reasond now

Football is not only about money. Its more about winning trophies. Arsenal have nothing much to show in the last few years. the invincables (Arsenal Team who went without losing entire season) were good, but after that what? Then wenger kept a steady team for many years. But now he has been selling important players to gain money, thereby disturbing the balance of the team resulting in the inability to win trophies. Flamini, Hleb, Adebayor, Toure etc, to many important players allowed to leave. When they seem to be developing a good team, few players depart thereby again leaving Arsenal inable to win tophies.

The prestnt team is ok, but without experience they cannot think of winning trophies. Its high time, they kept their team together for some time. WHats the use of creating players when u are selling them for profit when they are at their best.

Arsenal really have to keep this squad together for about 2 more years minimum to have chance of winning trophies. Too much of selling and buying will take them nowhere. Just look at Man United and Chelsea, they have players staying entire careers at them. Therefore they have a stable side and win trophies.

Its not the first time that a big club is going through trophy drought.More or less each and every club has faced this.
Definitely Football is not all about money. But in current scenario,Arsenal going through financial constraint since shifting to Emirates,I don't think that any manager except Arsene would have kept the club competitive. And if you look at the players who have left emirates, apart from Henry I don't think anyone has performed at the same level as they used to perform at Arsenal.Arsene never sells anyone if he is not willing to go.Hleb-climate of england was not suiting him.Ade-His attitude and the way he negotiated with the club for his contract expansion was highly disgusting. He started comparing himself with Henry."If you want me to play like henry, then pay like henry".In-spite of all Arsene gave him the chance for 1 more year. And before crucial CL semi tie with Manu,he gave statement comparing Milan's offer with Beyonce.Kolo handed over his transfer request in January itself after his ego clash with Gallas. And it was upto Arsene to chose between Gallas and Toure.Flamini wanted to be highest paid footballer in the team which was not possible.Gilberto wanted to have more first team action.
Anyway, this year we are quite matured side with ample experience with likes of Gallas,Arshavin,RVP,Cesc,Dudu,Rosicky. So hoping for the end of trophy drought at Emirates.

Its more like he refuses to spend despite glaring holes in the team

Wenger is a great manager but the way you put it as if he can do no wrong which is obviously wrong.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Unless you're Man Utd, in which case you let the other teams get ahead and then start sprinting as they all fall apart.

Well apart from CDM,I don't think Arsenal needs to fill any holes. We have players coming from youth ranks who need first team chances.
Also we need a backup for CDM in the month of Jan-Feb when Song will on national duty for ACN.Apart from it he replaced Kolo with Thomas Vermalean. And he would have bought another backup in defense but Senderos didn't left.So I don't think think we need more than 5 CB's.In midfield we have Cesc,Rosicky,Nasri with Song as CDM which is sufficient in 4-3-3 formation in which we are playing this season. And as far as attack is concerned,With RVP,Eduardo,Arshavin,Vela,Walcott,Nickolas Bendtner ,we don't need any more players in this department. And he will surely buy a CDM in a relatively lesser inflated transfer season in coming Jan.

Being politically correct, eh?

This thread used to move at the pace of 3 pages a day. Bring the oldies back.
