NR Narayana Murthy among most admired global CEOs - 20-12-2005, 07:10 PM

On Tuesday, Infosys’ chief mentor and chairman NR Narayana Murthy added one more feather in his cap with ‘The Economist’ naming him among the world’s top 15 most admired global leaders.

He scores above GE’s CEO Jeff Immelt at the number 8 slot in the list released by ‘The Economic’ Intelligence Unit and Burson-Marsteller, the global public affairs firm. The global survey named Microsoft chairman and chief architect Bill Gates as the world’s most admired leader. The other Indian to be named in the same list is Lakshmi N Mittal, who is ranked number 15.

The survey polled more than 600 global business influentials in 65 countries to write in which CEO or chairman they most admired in the business world today.
Several interesting characteristics about the world’s top 15 most admired leaders surfaced. Despite the predominance of American companies among the top four most admired leaders, more than half (nine of 15, or 60%) represent other regions. And significantly, no female CEOs or chairmen were chosen.

TOP 10 CEOS OF 2005

1 Bill Gates (Microsoft, US)

2 Steve Jobs (Apple, US)

3 Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway, US)

4 Michael Dell (Dell, US)

5 Richard Branson (Virgin Group, UK)

6 John Browne (BP, UK)

7 Carlos Ghosn (Nissan & Renault, Japan/France)

8 N R Narayana Murthy (Infosys, India)

9 Jeffrey Immelt (General Electric, US)

10 Rupert Murdoch (News Corp, Australia)
