well tat the Poll's conducted by MTV, was wondering how cud they miss out Malaika Arora...anyway coming back to the topic...
Icons eh? it asks who do we want to represent us..so i assume its kinda representing ourselves rather than representing India Globally...hence i find almost all the options sick, pathetic and disgusting, considering the fact tat the options have been put up on the forum..let me say why...
1.Shahrukh Khan - Why?? Why?? Why??
2.Sachin Tendulkar - Sachin Vs God..the arguement continues...me goin for Sachin...but an Icon?? why?? we aint 5th std kids aspiring to be the next gen Sachin hoping to play for the Country...so Sachin mebbe the best batsman ever in the History of cricket...but there's more to cricket than the Cover-Drives or the Straight-Drives...Cricket's all abt "Spirit (not Foster's), Honesty, Patriotism...and after all its a Gentleman's Game"...and talk abt Gentlemen and Cricket...dunno abt the stuff before i was born...but there can be only one example in recent times...wat other than
Adam Gilchrist walking off in the Aus-SL Semifinal in WC 2003...how can we imagine a player walking off, even after the Umpire has signalled "not-out", in a crucial game such as the WC Semifinal..anyway it made the captain furious (gilchrist is the vice-captain)...but he won himself lots of fans and a director's post in the company which sponsors the Aussie Team, Travelex..
3.Smriti Malhotra Irani - aka Tulsi Virani...and wat makes her a role-model..i am forced to watch this stupid serial everytime i go home...(no wonder it started when i joined my B.Tech...any bets on which gonna finish early?)...but all i can see in this serial and in the role of Tulsi, is a tailor-made ekta kapoor script which provides the female a "NEXT TO GOD" status..and makes us look at everyone else having a "bad" character...but how often do we find such a PURRRRFECT women in our day-to-day life??? and if it had to be someone from the telly-tube...it had to be
Barkha Dutt...any takers??
4.Atal Behari Vajpayee - again...WHY?? WHY?? WHY??
5.Anil Ambani - uh huh? this guy just carrying forward a 60000-cr empire set-up by his father....so aint making him an Icon anyday...gimme 60K-Cr..and too shall run the empire (atleast till the 60K-Cr is over)...so talking abt Businessmen...i cud see of only 1 option...
Sunil "Bharti" Mittal
6.APJ Abdul Kalam - well the best Prez India ever got...atleast he looks like a Prez...compared to the Shankar Dayal Sharmas and the KR Narayanans...and he's been working pretty well for the betterment of the nation..and someone mentioned as the Children's Prez ( was it NDTV )...but the only viable option in the Entire list...so have to go ahead with him
7.Maneka Gandhi - dunno why...but whenever i see her...i get the Rebel/Revolutionary picture...same goes with Arundhati Roy or Medha Patkar...dont we have better ladies in India???
