Hello members,

I am making one website.I will be copying various articles relating to india from other sites like forbes, computerworld, itworld, asiaweek etc.

My question is-

Can i put all these articles on my website and after each article put a disclaimer-"The following article have been taken from this website".

Is above thing safe?

PS-Only those who have genuine knowledge abt this should reply.

That would disqualify me, but I can give you a suggestion.

I think different websites would have different policies regarding it. The best thing would be to contact each one of them by email and asking this question to them.

Secondly if your site is going to be just a personal site and not a commercial one ( and hence less surfers like > 100 visitors/day) then there won't be any problem no matter what are the policies of the sites , but there is risk in this thing, however small.
to be perfectly safe you might follow the first tip.

well......if its gonna be a direct rip-off, i guess, u might as well give a link to the concerned page rather than reproducing entire articles....and instead of making the entire page a collection of links, you could probably add a few lines ahead of each link that give more info abt the concerned topic or link.......

regarding the disclaimer, no....it does not hold good.....masquerading copyright violations with "i-don't-know" kinda disclaimers have been shot down many a time,.....

and moreover, because most sites that u've mentioned are popular, big ones, they are most likely to be updated on a much regular basis compared to the amount of time that you might be spending on your site ( assuming its gonna be a personal, free site)......... hth...

Cheers

HI BaBu,

Many of the other existing laws would hold good for cyberspace also ...
Because its not covered extensively ... many important rulings hv been made on case-to-case basis... which may serve as pointers in future ... like "yahoo incversus akash arora" case , the rediff vs radiff ... but many of the rulings are wrt domain names ... U could find out more abt copyrights in particular in indian law websites ...indlaw.com etc
I think Allwin would be knowing more abt this part ...
Computer s/w,databases ..are treated as similar to literary works ...

Ya abt earlier post .. the author is "rak(j)esh talwar" ...and also there is a book on cyberspace laws ( worldwide perspective) written as early as in the 90s - by Llyod

The bottom line is that know these rules so that u can bend it like u might be knowing in maps and dictionaries errors(non-existent places etc) are introduced jst for the sake of copyright !

Thanks to everyone for replying and special thanks to suj.

Finally i have decided.I would be putting articles from magazines to my websites and on the top would mention the URL of article as well as ''this article is taken from this website ''.

If something bad happens i would be writing cat 2003 from jail
