hello frnds , i m new here.
i want some help.plz advice me.

i m 24 yrs old working in a call center for the last 2 months.i m very much serious abt pursuing MBA frm a top notch b-school like IIMs/XLRI.so i m preparing for CAT exam seriously.but i m worried abt one thing........my academic back ground. let me tell u
(X-68%,XII-45%,B.com-40%). so this is the picture........my question is tht say if i do well in Cat exam(say if get above 99 percentile)would i be called for gd/pi? inspite of my pathetic academics
is there any scope for me to get into any top notch b-school with this kind of background......
i m really worried !!
i don't no wht to do......should i quit prep and concentrate on my job......
i have only 2 months of work exp right now(though completed my gradution in 2002).
plz give me honest and pragmatic advice.......
my career hangs over that.....plzzzzzzzzzz

hey dude with 40% in b.com u cant get into some Bschool. the Eligibility of many r more then 50%. so go and check the Inst before giving CAT.

My serious and honest advice would be that you should give Cat but forget about the top B-schools as you have mentioned because all of them require at least 50% in the graduation. From the Past trend I can tell you that in CAT form it is not mentioned anywhere that you should have above 50% BUT tell you honestly they didnt send you the call for the GD and Interview. I give you an example last year one of my friends had the highest score in SCMHRD written test but his 12th class percentage was in fifties so he didnot recieve the call. He called up at SCMHRD and they give the same reason for not sending the call. So friend I will give you a suggestion that do a post graduation degree in something else study hard over there and then apply to top B-schools next year. There are many one year diplomas available in the country OR Give exams like MAT and ATMA and look for other B-schools which are next to top 10 or 20. Study hard, achieve more then 95 percentile and tell you honestly you can do manipulation at the time of admission if you score well in GD and PI also. By manipulation I mean Donation. But that happens only when you able to fill the form of the respective institute and in many cases to be precise for 90% institutes you cannot even fill the forms. This is worst thing dear. So go for those institutes which accept lower percentage in grads and always believe that "TRUTH IS STRANGER THEN FICTION." NO ONE KNOWS THAT ONE DAY YOUR DREAM WHICH WAS A FICTION BECOMES REALITY AND STANDS IN FRONT OF YOU. You ask for a honest advice thats why I give the honest advice. Please dont think I was rude. DO NOT THINK TOO MUCH. JUST PREPARE ....You cannot predict what the situation will be later. You are only putting stress on urself right now. Keep working as it will keep u busy in other things as well. All the Best to You....

hey cataspirants !!

Take a look at my academics
10th- 55.75% CBSE
12th- 59.2% CBSE
engineering- will end up getting around about same score's with live KT's what do you sugest?shud i give CAT a shot,i am confident of my commn skill's, i can put dedicated hours of hardwork also to get a decent score of something 99+ percentile i also hav a 6 months work experience(from july-december).
do you think i stand a chance? Its pretty pathetic that top schools look at past academics??. They would have filtered out Einstein, Bill gates, paul allen.in this mode of filtering!!!

Bill Gates was doing his graduation from Harvard ( along with Steve Ballmer).

Paul Allen did his grads. from Washington State Univ. ( another top notch).

I sincerely suggest that don't look for errors on the part of the addmission committee, rather understand what they r looking for and inculcate that.

Would also do good if you read before you write.

Hey dude,
why blame the ad com on somethng u didnt achieve in ur academics? ( whatever b the reason) .
Why shud the guy with good acads suffer just coz u didnt do well in ur acads? Its survival of the fittest u c! with close to 0.2 milion aspirants each year , the Ad Com is absolutely justified if they send out calls to individual who have shone in their acads.
It reflects hard work and diligence on their part and they deserve a call .
Forget the comm skills...that comes after u get a call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and forget the Einsteins...if ur one u will shine anyway...so the lesser mortals need to fight it out with whatever they have in hand ( read acad).

So instaed of cribbin on the Ad Com's 'pathetic' strategy of giving calls to individuals with better acads, do some soul searching and try to do well .......... and wish u all the best in ur cat.
