Join Date: Sep 2004 | MDI now or CAT next yr for IIMs -
12-04-2005, 10:26 AM
My friends,
This yr, i got 7 calls....5 IIMs ,MDI , NITIE... I converted MDI and NITIE but all the 5 IIMs dumped me... I have until now 8 months work-ex in wipro. What should i do now? Should i go to MDI (i already chucked NITIE) this yr? or take CAT next yr for IIMs? By next yr, i will have 20months work-ex which will be ideal. But, leaving MDI this yr hoping that i will crack IIMs next yr is a big risk....So, what should i do now?
1: Go straight away to MDi and forget IIMs
2:Forget MDI and give CAT again for IIMs
3:Go for MDI and while at MDI only, write CAT again
I dont know whether option 3 is possible or not...
So friends , veterans, plz give me advice..... and moderators , plz dont lock this thread until i get a clear response....
thanx | | | | | | | |

I think u have the calibre(to crack cat) and the age on ur side.Plus as u said next yr u will have 20 months of work ex which will be ideal for lateral placements.......
IIM is a big brand and nothin like passing out of ABC...... but Mdi is also a gud place to be in........
so in the end its all ur call........

hi
it is sad to hear tht u were not able to convert any of the 5 iim calls.
i wud like to share my experience with u. last yr i passed out from nsit and had final call from iift . i did not have any iim call though my percentile was 99.11 . any ways i decided to go fr a job and have a go at cat next yr. this yr i had better percentile, filled form for only iim and fms. i had calls from a,c,k and fms. now i hv managed to convert a n fms. so i think i took a good decision last yr. but life is a lot dicey. seeing ur case of not able to convert any of 5 i think the decision cud have been backfired on me . but anyways it is ur call and u need to take it . but one thing fr sure. take a decision and have guts to live with it. later on u may feel tht ur decision may not have been correct but u shld never regret that.
cheers

Your percentile cannot be less for the big iims subbu....i had a percentile of 99.35 with a pathetic 86 in english...got just one call from A...and after a good gd but a not-so-good pi, managed to get thru...so i dont think percentile matters a lot in the final selection....and as far as your problem is concerned, i wud suggest both options are equal....taking up mdi is as good or as bad as dropping an year and appearing for cat next year again.....both are laden with positives and negatives........its a tough decision...bt i wud say, gather some more work-ex....cos u HAVE the capability to crack CAT....5 calls is no joke....that is a very personal opinion....and MDI is coming up like nething.....ATB man...tc

No doubts...Just close ur eyes and join MDI..
If u were not able to convert any of the 5 iim calls..chances are there tht u might convert some of them next time..BUT there is no guarantee tht u will get 99+%le next time!!
Wht is the problem with MDI??Have a look at the profile of students there?placements?Exchange programs?..MDI is coming up like anything..
Forget abt CAT...Forget abt IIM...U r now a MANDEVIAN and be proud of it..Be sure to add some glory to the institution...MDI or IIM X...it does make a difference BUT not so much tht U need to take some serious risk for the next year CAT..

thanx | what do you want? can you tolerate working in wipro? can you enjoy it? if yes, then stick around. do remember, if you don't manage to get iims next year, you can try again
but if you join mdi now, you'll probably never join an iim.
are you comfortable working in the IT sector, or do you lust for I banks and dollar salaries?
i doubt if mdi can give you the latter.
of course, you can try this also........
stay in wipro, go onsite for long term, earn enuf money and try for either isb or the iims through the NRI quota later | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
