there's very little to choose between B & C

my suggestion: wear a blindfold and walk into B.

BUT, don't expect miracles, u still have to work hard if you want those super jobs.

My Two cents

If you are good enuf to get admission into 2 very good instis , u shud also be good enuf to choose between the 2 as well

Amit

ps Try reading first few pages of Fountainhead and try relating what Peter Keating asked Howard Roark abt the options he had regarding his career plans to your situation

ps1 No hard feelings and Congrats on great results

My Five Paise

Congrats Deepak for a gr8 performance

Techno/Consulting Jobs and 'chilled' campus life - IIMC it is

Techno/Consulting and chilled location - pubs et al - Bangalore surely

Otherwise flip a coin - and if u do plan to 'refer'
Fountainhead - read on till the very last page - to come to a correct conclusion - but dont go mad searching for Howard Roark like Rand tried to in real life.

Congrats again pal on having to make a decision

Very little to chose from... Both of them are equally good, and solely depends on your personal preferences...

C has got a more relaxed lifestyle compared to B, but B is a more professionally run organization of these two. Nothing much to choose b/w the placement/faculty/infra etc. May the distance from your home could be a criteria.

this is whatmy friend , an alumni of IIMB had to say:

on comparison of faculty, infrastructure .....no comparison
faculty knowledge...he rated C higher ....(tho for an MBA course, it doesnt relly matter)

course: mktg: B is better...but C now has a course called" mktg in practice"..where HLL guys come n teach...n hence , the placements this yr were ahead of B

fin: surely C...in terms of course....placements nothing really to choose...C may have a few more I Banking offers...but in terms of domestic , no sig diff

IT: both r equally good..b on account of location..c coz ofpgdcm
ops: go with eyes closed to C.....B sucks out here!!
GM/strat: C overtakes B but by not much

C had more students going to foreign exchnage programs this yr than B
n is getting proactive bout its position...B is probably the best at media handlin tho

he said B was a lil behind C.....but people chose it for weather , ambience n for a more professional outlook
at C, he said u have to be self-disciplined since there s too much of freedom given to u......

thats all, he felt C did have a small edge over B....

I haven't decided either way Deepak.

The thing is, most senior people I ask(junta that recruits ABC ppl from my co.)
say that C has traditionally been stronger compared to B.
They say that companies respect C grads a tad more than B passouts.
Now this may be a subjective opinion, but this is what I keep hearing again and again.

But then again B seems to be damm good at PR skills. They have really marketed their institute as a posh, sophisticated place to be in. Add to that the fact that Bangalore is a thriving hub of industry comapared to Cal and also that Bangalore has taken considerably more effort in choosing their students, and one has a very strong case for Bangalore too.

So the debate continues.

I'd love to hear other views on this.

hi guys,
this is what i came across in a similar discussion at coolavenues.com

>>>>>>>>
ok iimc guys,

u r right u know, iimc is better. this is somebody who is studying in iimb. though we do manage to beat u in all surveys. As for u aspirants, just find out how many of the students who had the same choice last year took iimc. out of 108 common students, around 37 picked up iimc and rest all went to iimb. Truthfully speaking, not much difference between the 2, placements et al.
So just take a pick, i decided it this way, iimb - less focus on quants - hence i took b obviously IIMC man....dun get taken in by the tall claims of IIMB....or you will only regret it later in your life and yes, never go by their (IIMB) foolish avg. salary numbers....its all hogwash. First they report 7.3 lakhs in papers than on facing attacks from all corners, sheepishly reduced that to about 6.10 lacs....so, only god knows, what is the actual avg. salary.

Apart from that, IIMB has been getting some really C grade companies, who are taking 5-6 ppl each....like shaw wallace.

>>>>>>>another mail>>>>>>>>>>>

C anyday.unless u have some very critical personal priorities making you stay at bangalore.this year we have a&c in the superleague, while b is fighting it out xl/l types.bottom 30% in b had very poor placements, quite similar to mdi/xim types with companies like joyco, shaw wallace and videocon as recruiters.

but C is very quant oriented,so if u are a non engineer who is not too comfy with quants, opt for b.
