Coaching Centre in Kolkata: IMS or ERUDITE?

Hi,
I've work ex of 2 yrs, and intend to join a coaching centre in Kolkata to prepare for CAT.
Can't decide on whether to opt for IMS or ERUDITE?
Can anyone opine? Opinion of anybody who has attended classes of either of these institutes, is highly solicited.

As far as i know, Erudite's the best in Calcutta...IMS material is good...but i guess u shud go for Erudite...their coachin is good for XAT too..

one coaching inst u forgot is time. although faculty isnt really gr8(exceptions r a rule), u somehow tend to find the best ppl in dere n interacting with them provides u more gyaan than u can gain in a claass. so ..............

Ya Smita u r right, I havn't considered TIME ..I'll do that.

Abt Erudite .... I agree with Ashish that it boasts of fabulous records. But the only factor hindering me from joining is the cost which is around Rs 18000.

On the other hand if I join IMS it'll be around 6000 for me ( as I've been a student of IMS Bhubaneswar in last year)

hey saurav,

according to the info that i have, i think the classroom coaching of erudite is the best in calcutta. ims is not too good in classroom coaching as i has personally experienced it last yr. one more thing bad abt ims is that they pay very little attention to DI section. we just had 3 classes in total for the whole DI portion. though our batch was the last to start (just 2.5 mths before CAT), but, still could not justify why we had so little attention to DI. even ppl who were in ims from 1 yr faced similar problems in DI. but, our GD/PI classes were fabulous. i think in this respect ims is quite good. plus, in erudite i think u have to pay separately for XAT classes and GD/PI classes, but not in ims.

but, since u r having such a good bargain with ims this time, u cud as well go with ims. if u do decide to join ims, then please join the batch in which Nikunj sir takes the quant/di/logic part. though i was not under him for regular classes, i had attended a couple of doubt clarifying sessions of his. i found him to be quite good. i think i must have learnt more short cuts in those couple of classes than in the whole of my regular classes put together. he is clearly the most popular teacher in ims in calcutta. he teaches in gariahat and park street center, but not too sure of the salt lake one.

as far as i know it was not a very good institute to start with
now two star faculty have left

is an interesting case study actually ,only comin up when there was a vacuum in kolkata regarding coaching options
it is an amazing mix of childish military discipline combined with classes which are supposed to be breath taking but have zero effectivity in cat
i say this as a priviledged ex erudite student
other than inane suggestions like practising rc of zth level doing fractyions half ur life and absolute crap wen it comes to interviews the only reason ppl seem to join it is because of good students being there something which is very much in the decline
fact is that for something like cat u need an all india institute with resources and r&d
even erudite students dont give their simcats but erudite goes to kgp and offers 20 for 500 rs
c'mon lets get real 3 out of four erudite students dont understand wat they r gettin into
As for IMS
their cutoffs over the years reflect how much insight they have in cat
as much as i have in advanced rocket science

am quite late in joining classes for CAT but anyway . i will also consider IMS because as am working and i have to be transfered to bombay in july end. if i wont be able to complete classes here then i will take up the classes in IMS bombay which is the best there. so if you have any suggestions on that quote?

heres my 2 pence...

been to erudite in 2001....left midway..they hve an idiotic way of scaring people by repeating the line "CAT is very tough ...you cant make it"..thts why u need erudite bla bla...and then they teach u all those stupid shortcut methods which u will never use..

lost interest in CAT tht year...

come 2003...joined IMS....they start with CAT..its pretty easy if u just put in a bit of effort...now this is somethng which acted like magic for me....
i think its the approach tht matters....

secondly, erudite doesnt hve good study materials.....IMS is simply the best...

third, the all india simcats of IMS are the best way to judge one's performance vis-a-vis other students not only in your city but the entire country...

IMS faculty includes CP Singh - those who have interacted with him will swear by him..he is God...and then there is Mihir Bose...a gem of a teacher...and believe me they are not current students or this year passouts from IIMs...they are way way way senior people...
