IIFT Call: -
Am starting with iift call as that was the first call i attended, and the one that i have converted till now.

First was the GD. topic was :- Interconnectivity in social emporwerment.
The GD was very fantastic. Every person gave the others chances, and we all collaborated with each others views. There was absolutely no fighting. One thing i have noticed is that anytime we had a fish market type happening, all of us automatically backed down and let just one guy speak. It was a wonderful experience.

Interview:- In my panel there was a madam and sir. Since i am a fresher and interested in finance, they asked me some details about the stock market etc. Also being placed in reliance energy, i had the IPO issue. I had prepared to be questioned on that, so i tried to answer as much as i could. I feel i fared well there. I did make a few blunders as i stutterred in some questions and even went wrong in some, but mostly i was able to say sorry, i mean this but i mentioned the previous in the worng sense.
They were trying to put me in traps, but mostly i remained impassionate, (Actually was under huge pressure, so i couldnt even react to some thiungs they said.) This way some pressure tactics i missed, and the interview went on. They asked a bit about my extra curr as well. Total time around 20 mins.

So, ultimately i converted IIFT.
My analysis about the process:-
GD:-
1. dont make a fish market. 50 mins is a lot of time for people to present their views. Dont be me first. Speak legibly and coherently. Dont drone or do cross-cutting. PLEASE DONT FORM CARTELs. If you know somebody from before, dont make it obvious. The panel is quite intelligent about that.

2. write down your points and try a give a good opening while you summarise. That is the time to see who is with you on your issue, and who is agianst you. This is where you formulate the strategy.

3. Let people speak. when you get a chance, speak and then try and give a chance to people who havent been able to speak. If someone interrupts you in between, just request to complete. However this will not work if are droning on. people have got lesser points for making too long points.

4. Get your message across. maintain eye-contact with the group. give respect to girls. Do overdo it however.

PI:-
1. be true to the examiner. they are experts and usually have pschoanalysts with them so dont try and confuse them. it wont happen. if you dont know something, say so. If you feel, you can say, sorry sir i dont know this, but i know this this and this.

2. maintain eye contact. read some gk and current affairs related to your specialisation. will help a lot.

3. be frank and be free. a cool customer helps. take time to answer a question if you want, but dont jump into it. let the examiner complete.

This is my gd/pi experience and analysis. Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Links for GD/PI Experiences - 20-03-2008, 10:48 AM

Writin in dis thread for the second time nw..I really need to share my GD-PI experience as it was kind of wierd and take some feedback

CAT '07: 99.24
Calls: I&K
22 months work experience with Ernst & Young...

GD was fine..everyone spoke..topic was nuthin excitin enough that wud make the GD a fish market..so all gud till nw:razz:

Then PI started..One Lady professor (LP) n one Gent Prof (GP)

GP: temme sumthin abt urself n why shud we select u
Me: blah blah blah
LP: Wat is unique abt US & Pakistani elections
Me: I think the unique thing abt Pakistan elections is that they are happening
N then both of them started laughin

But that was the last time they laughed..
They bombarded me wid questions they knew i wont be knowin..For example(s)
1) Wat role did lucknow play in the independence of India (I am from lucknow)...chatted some shit
2) Name some ancient Indian Economist..

And small things here n there but none of the relevant stuff..
By the end it became very interestin..listen to this..
LP: Wat is purchasing power parity
me: explained in detail n everythin
LP: Wat was the foreign exchange yest
me: its arnd 39.somethin
LP:wat was it exactly
Me: i dunno
LP: How come?? (as if i am a trader!!)
Me: Somehow i didn't find out..and somehow i dont find out the exact figure on an everyday basis
LP: wat was the sensex yest
Me: It was 18550 on Friday (My interview was on wednesday)..and there hasnt been any major movement since then
LP: Wat was it exactly
Me: i dunno
LP: how much did Sachin score yest
Me: He didnt do too well..(came bk n saw he had scored 2 runs)
LP: but how much exactly
Me: i dunno
LP: So wat have u prepared for this interview!!!!!!!
Me: i was just being myself..........
Both of them smiled at each other..i have no idea why..
Now GP spoke
GP: u work with one of the Big 4 companies in the world..Its a CA firm how come u r not pursuin CA n still there
Me: told him it needs people who r gud in marketin n stuff n also auditin is not that tough to do

N then THANK U n ya ALL DA BEST...

SOooo this was my experience...my first iim interview which definitely stood up to an iim reputation..the only gud part abt it was that i was smilin throughout..no acads no wrk ex questions...have no idea wat they were tryin to gauge..

Seniors plz help
