hi one and all..the advantages of being a s/w engg, and having 24 hrs net connectivity will be quite obvious after u read this looooooooooong thread...
i had my MET, GD and PI on 25th feb at IIM-B.
profile:-
CAT% 97.75, 2 years work EX in a s/w mnc.
B.tech, 2002 passout.
**how i got to IIM-B
one of my friends dropped me at the scenic IIM-B campus. @ 8:00am, we had to report at 8:30am. boy...the bldng looks like a 19th century castle... build with solid rocks... but of course, equipped with the latest gizmos that man invented... a fine blend of a pre-historic behemoth with cutting edge technology...harmony...ahahahaha...okok, i'm digressing...i know!

surprise, surprise...i bump into my college junior(T.K Thomas..former basketball cptn of the compsci team)... and immediately, we chattered away like 2 monkeys on a tree..about the good times in college and how our alma matter was being considered for an IIT-status...
okok...without further delay..
-----------here goes my "experience" ---------------
** i
MET surprise...
We were all directed by the very helpful wall markings to the Auditorium (big huge room with lotsa chairs..), where we joined the already serpentine Queue, and produced our MICA call letter and the Dee-Dee for 500/- in favour of MICA.
time now was 8:35am, and i was chatting away with some more mallus who joined us..all of us eager to kill time and get started..
MET began at 9:05, and the person in charge told us that we would be given time till 10:35am to finsh the test...start! he said... and blank i went!@##@#@ --- blank---zip---zap---#@#@#@#@#.... what the hell!!!...what wwaaaas this paper?? another surprise!!?? 2005 sure is the year of surprises...
Guys, i had been reading...cramming all the logos, punch lines.... CEOs... whozwho of the Ad world for the past 2 weeks for nuthinnnnnn!!...the test reduces all the advantages of preparing...and gives everyone a fair chance!
The
MET comprised of 4 sections.
>>
The first section (
10 questions , finish 'em in 10 mins) consisited of some match the following type questions wherein we were asked to find the best fit for a group of words...let ur creative juices flow
ie...
coloumn A Coloumn B
1. Sun Light
2. Lamp shade
3. dark ray
guyz... this is just an arbitrary example...so any similarity to questions in MET are purely concincidental

anywaz......here, u r supposed to circle the serial number of the item in Coloumn A,which matches the ones in Coloumn B the most.
like... sun shade, sun light, ray of sun... (something like that).so the ans being (1)
>>
Second Section (
20 questions, better to finsh 'em in 30 mins)
consisted of some psychometric testing...but with an analytical twist!

like.. u were given 6 options on some situations... where in, u r suppossed to rank the choices (max points 15, min points 1), and they should add up to 30!!
the catch here is that , u cannot, i repeat
CANNOT use the same points for more than one option.
>>
Third Section (
60 questions, finish em in '20 minutes) was the one that was purely psychometric in nature... they have given detailed directions as to "be honest", "be urself"... and if u cheat, it can be easily detected and can lead to disqualification of the candidate...
Now, all that said and done, what are they looking for?? "honest indiciduals who have a passion for communication field, and sustain it's accompanying rigours?" would be a great ans...
So, like i said...60 questions, wherein u r required to be honest to get through... and rate "how you would behave in a given situation"...
5 being "alwayz behave in this manner",
1 being "never behave in this manner"..the trick here is that... most junta won't read the fine print...
For ex:- q num 21 maybe ..."when u fail to accomplish to a task, u take help from ur teammates" supose i rate myself 5!! (alwayz!!).... then there definitely will be another queston say...58 ) which would be worded like "u would prefer working alone on a project , than in a team".... now, if i rate myself 5 (alwayz..)... obviously, these statements are in conflict!!
guyz... these are not exact Questions... but my point of view, and insights into this section... anybody who wishes to lamblast me on my views or has a completly different point of view... i'm alwayz open for discussion
>> The
last section... consists of writing essays,
It was about u being selected as a representative from ur college, and there are 9 others from other colleges, who have been asked to come up with helping the nearby slum dwellers, points of focus being hygiene, health and awareness (i'm guessing, don't remember the third option)
u get to write essays on some questons like :-
a)why slums arise?
b)what are the consequences of slums in a society...(not too sure about the wordings..someting of this sort)
c)write a speech for
5-7 year olds addressing the issue of clean drinking water.
guys... this is tooo long a reply...
i will post my GD and PI experiences in another post..
cheers,
Sunny.
