Thumbs up Case Study Qs based on Swades - 27-02-2005, 05:45 PM

Hi

I hope atleast some of the MICA aspirants would have seen Swades by now. The case study which was given to us went like this:

You have been a team member of a 10-man college team which is chosen to represent the State on behalf of All India Rural Dev Progm....There are three thrust areas Health, hygiene and Education...Base on such info. answer the following 4 Qs:

Q1. What are the reasons for backwardnss of such a place?

Q2. What would have been the consequences for India if there remains a status-qou i.e. India's Rural society...?

Q3. List down 10 priorities which you would consider important for such an area, giving reasons for ranking them in such an order...

Q4. You have been chosen to communicate on behalf of your 10-man group to address the elderly men of the village emphasising on ther importance of girl education in the society.....

Now, people who have watched Swades, dont you think 'They' are putting us in the shoes of the protagnist in the movie Mohan Bhargava????

Looks like everyones PI was a walk in the garden ... almost as stressful as swingin in a hammock as the breeze rustles the palms above.... but i digress... point is, how in the world r they plannin to slash down their list to 60 sumthin if evryones been doin good.... Mebbe thts whr the GD comes in - tht deafening battle, where everyone bled and a few haemorrhaged ... ah, but we could speculate and predict, and rant and wonder and come May, finally be zonked when they spring the final surprise (the list)

The grapevine has it that they are thinking of doubling the intake this year. No confirmation from any reliable source though. But I believe there's no smoke without fire....so let's all just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Gave my MICAT (the new avatar of MET) today, pretty much the same as has been described earlier on this thread. Got GD/PI tomorrow in the afternoon. Still to figure out "Why MICA?".

Are the panelists asking any technical or academics related questions?? (I'm an engineering student). And any general questions like GA or anything?? Or they just wanna know "Why the hell MICA??"??

Why MICA - 28-02-2005, 01:47 AM

I think the grapevine is pretty true .

Now, WHY MICA can be justified by any person provided who has realised the imp. of PR in his life. Just give the relevance of Communication Mgmt. in present day scenario. Engineers can use the subjective knowledge they have in Operations Mgmt. paper...

hey guys,
had my mica micat,gd,pi on 27th in delhi.
well, everyone by now nows the pattern of micat so no use discussiong about it,but yes will agree watching swades was quite elpful, wud write to ashutosh gowarikar if i get selected.

anyways gd was fine, though i believe my gd was not that upo to the mark.the gd had in an case become a fish market and the moderator asked each of us to summarise individually...the topic was preventing cyber crimes,8(or 10) recommendations were given, had to rank them individually and also what group felt as a whole....

then came interview and was like this:
the panel comprised two males and a lady.
L-so waht is the discussion going on outside.
replied that wat are the questions being asked inside and what might be asked
L-and what do u think might be asked
said why mica?
L-so let`s start with it only
gave her a reply.
I-1-so u want to be a brand manager
yes
I-1-wat does he do,diiffernce between brand manager and product manager, diff. between brand and product, etc.
replied to it
I-2-is mauritius a brand
yes.
I-2-how
explained it
I-2-is india a brand.
said partly yes.
asked me what ws the tourisr inflow this year
promptly replied that don`t know
I-2-waht wud u do as a brand manager of indian tourism.
replied to it.
I-2-won`t playing on ancient indian theme(ayurveda, mysticism, yoga, etc.etc)cause the mnc`s to stop investing in india.
replied to it.
I-2-wat is more important ,listening or speaking.
replied both.
I-2- so what went wrong in the gd
replied to it.
I-2-so who was playing the idiot.
i refused to comment on this.
seeing my reluctancehe reframed his question and said who was playing the spoil sport in the gd.
I said that the fact is all of us were good,i was chatting with my grp members outside and they were all gentleman, inside the room everyone is for his own coz for everyone this is a make or brak situation,so wat happend that if at one monet one person started to speak, two others also started at same moment.whren they were quite other 3 pp spoke at same time, including me.so in this grp. none was particularly responsible, but to some extent we all were.
I-2 then read out my form and asked me to judge him(had written in my strenghs that whenver i meet someone for the first time i am able to read their minds, provided they talk to me informally)
i said that this was not a informal converstion.
he then started to laught and said arrey yaar maine to tie bhi nahin pahni hai, kahan formal interview hai yeh.tum to aise hi formal hue jaa rahe ho.
i replied that sir for u this might be a informal ,routine thing but for me this is something very important so i will have to be serious for it.as for wearing a tie that is not that important a it does not necessarily portray that one is beiong formal or not.
I-2-well then why are u wearing a tie.
i said it keeps me down to earth.i ahve ceratin obligations to fulfil towards my family so this tie keeps me reminding that and thus in turn inspire me.i don`t wear a tie,not even in my college but am wearing it here coz this uncomfortable thing around my neck is a constant reminder of my duites( ,wat was that dude???yeah i know i was just bluffing around,he he he)
I-2-he then asked me why i did engineering
replied and also added that had i enjoyed it i wud not have been sittin here giving u the interview and now i know what i am doing and know what i wud be doing 20 years from know.
L-wat wud u be doing 20 yrears from know.
replied.
I-1-SO WHAT IS UR PLAN B.
replied to it.
L-do u have other calls.
replied yes.and named them
she asked me to rnk them.
did so.(i ranked mica no. 1)
she asked me that since ur giving the interview here u r saying it no. 1
i then justifeid it and cited my experience of tapmi where i had ranked tapmi no. 4.she seemed satisfied by my answer.
they then asked each other whether they had to ask any question.when all said they are done, they asked me to leave.
got up,said thanks and came out.

well that was my experience...lets see what the results have to say.....
all the best to everyone....

Misinformation... Thts the sweetest thin abt grapevines... So many things hanging by a tendril of a hearsay .... Nopes dude, afaik the seats rn't doubling... Instead of 60 it's gonna b 80 sumthin... But then thts wht the b'bay grapevine says... Believe at ur own risk

Here goes my five cents.... Wht they asked out here might b diff frm wht u'll hv to face.... thts coz some panels rn't frm mica per se but frm the industry... so thr... the game starts afresh .... However, tho "why mica" is a compulsory question, prolly u can expect stuff from ur form (rem the one u might hv scribbled in once upon a time in one of ur somnambulance fits ..lol), hobbies (test the waters b4 u plunge in here...dun wanna showoff b4 a guru), gen perception of career in advtg (read tht leaflet they sent almost as a second thght... wht was asked of destsuccess is pretty much wht u can xpect), movies, current affairs (oh yaa.. tht could very well pop in), some personal awareness gyaan (career shifts, tu aisa kyun hai types) and if ur jst plain unlucky sumthin totally outta ur ambit .... Could the guys who had their MICAT/GD/PI at Ahmedabad please throw some light on the duration of the entire process i.e by what time in the evening did u get free. I need this info as I have my FMS interview on the 15th and will have to catch a train to Delhi for the same. So accordingly I can plan my journey.

hi thomas,
there really is no concrete ans for ur question....but here are my views..

Te time taken to finish the process depends on :-

i)The number of aspirants on that particular day. (on this basis, groups are formed as "pre-lunch" (GD starting at 11:00 am) or post-lunch (GD starting at 2:00 pm)
ii)The number of panels interviewing the candidates.
and iii) how long each aspirant is interviewed by the panel that is assigned to him/her.

now... in the case of B'lore, where i had my selection process... it took a lot of time, because there were a lot of candidates... and the panel was carefully scrutinising each aspirant.

hopefully, for u, the whole process... if it starts by say...9:00am....
Met will be over by 10:30, then comes the GD, which will start at 11:00(if u r in the pre-lunch session) and get over by 11:30, and then according to your number (u r given a number when u attendd the GD), the PI will get finished by maxxx... 3:00pm.

hope u can catch ur train for FMS... and get to join the bus for MICA

all the best.

Cheers,
sunny.
