Hi,

Have u heard anything like only acads int. In Bombay i was asked about my 12th std acads for whole 25 min. And when i was telling them ki i was involved in so many extracurricular activities, he was ignorant to that point. When i told them about y MBA from NIRMA then also they were admant about my Physics electronics gyan. And above all the person seating in the middle was laughing continuously. They asked me to graw the atomic model of Nitrogen and SPDF orbital valencies. I coudlnt remember the damm thing in the int. bye see ya IIMI.

Hi Guys,
Had my ‘ek lauta’ IIM-I interview yesterday at Vashi, New Bombay at 2 pm.
My profile: BCom , MCom, CA ;26 months workex ;97.33 %ile in CAT
Candidates:23 candidates. 3 did not turn up. The rest 20 (17 techies,1 Comm grad, 1 journalist and 1 CA (yours truly)) were divided in 3 groups of 7,7 & 6. I was in the 3rd.
6 of us were taken to a room for GD.
Panel:3 people on the panel. One baldie , another middle aged guy and one 30-something chap
GD: Was about Muthu the employee in a Bank where a robbery has taken place and he first hands over the money and then chases the robbers and gets shot in the leg but saves the money. The latter being against the bank policy , the Chief manager wants to penalize him. The PR director is concerned about the Media reaction and the HR director about the Trade Union’s reaction to his suspension. Muthu’s father also lost his life in a similar incident. Muthu has a family to take care of. The Chief Manager wants ton use this incident to press for his promotion.
What should the Chief Manager do??
It was decent. Had done the same before so was not a worry. Made 5-6 entries.
Everyone got a chance to speak
But was not able to complete the summary. They said 5 mins but gave only 3 mins.
One of the panelists was sitting separately and was everything but attentive When the GD was over he returned to his seat.

Interview: Was the second to be called in. The Inattentive Prof (P1) in the middle and the second(P2) at the right. The third (P3) walked in later.And myself (M) enters, hands over the certs and sits in front of them.
P1 (in a somber tone): Listen I am not well, so I wud like u to answer my questions precisely.
M: Ok sir
P1: With an example tell me the difference between Acctg Standard,Acctg Policy & Acctg Principles?
M: Took Depreciation as an Example and blah...blah….blah.
P1: What are Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)?
M: Explained..
P1: Ok what principle is followed in Inventories which is not a GAAP?
M: I don know
P3 enters the room and seats himself
P1: What are the disclosure requirements if a company discontinues a line of business?
M: Explained…
P1: What is the difference btw Income Statement & Profit and Loss Account?A minor difference.
M: There is no difference sir. If Minor difference …Prolly just the format of presentation
P3 takes over..
P3: Ok u had studied French in academics. So any continuation in any manner.
M: No Sir, was busy in other activities. But contemplate doing a course from ‘AF de Bombay’
P3: So how many alphabets in French?
M: 26 letters in the French alphabet just like English.
P3: Difference between French and English script ?
M: Sir the accents like ague, grave and cedilla…to bring out the pronunciation subtleties.
P3: So how many people in the world speak French?
M: Don’t know the exact number but yes it’s the 2nd most widely spoken language in the world (My French book said that).
P3: Oh is it? So which is the 1st?
M: I feel its English. (Later came to know that 1st Mandarin, 2nd English & 3rd French…so a big blunder thanks to my French Book )
P3: So any French speaking people in India? Which period did they rule in India?
M: Yes sir. French had Pondicherry , Mahe and Karaikal as their colonies in India.

P3: Any agreement btw French & Indian Govt.?
M: Yes sir, India not to discourage French language & French Culture in those areas.
P1: So French is recognised as the official language in the Constitution?
M: No Sir
P3:What is indirect taxes? Components?
P3: No, indirect taxes , types?
M: Explained
P3: Why is service tax an indirect tax?
M: Explained
P3: Name some Asian currencies.(I had written Philately as my hobby)
M: Pakistan Rupee, Sri Lanka Rupee/Cents, Thai Baht, Singapore $, Maldives Rupee, Nepal Rupee, Bhutan Ngultrum....

M: Ringitt
P1(with a huge grin):Philippines?
M: (I thought it is Peso but was not sure considering that it is a currency in Latin America, later found Peso to be correct) ....I don’t know (with a smile , P1 grins harder )

P2: You have a science competition certificate in school? So why not science as a career?
M: Competition was a project and quiz.…was never excited with Physics & Chem formulae..hence….
P2: U say following National Politics is a hobby...Two ways in which can we root out corruption?
M: 1) Further empower the CVC 2) Bring out a definite Anti Corruption Law….No such law at present
P2: But how do we remove it from the grass roots?
M: Removing from Grassroots difficult…Attack it in sections…Politicians should start with themselves first.
P2: What are the three words that describe India in the Constitution?
M: Its not three sir, its five.
P2: Oh they are five? What all? What were they before and what word was added later?
M: Socialist Secular Sovereign Democratic Republic. Before they were Socialist Democratic Republic…Later the word Sovereign was added
P2:World's Longest /Shortest Constitution , Country with no Constitution?
M:Longest -India, Shortest - I don know (Later checked to find its the US Constitution, No Constitution - United Kingdom (No written Constitution)
P2: How many seats in the Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha?
M: Rajya Sabha 200
P2: 200 Are u sure?
M: Yes sir, 200 with 12 members nominated by the Prez. and 545 in Lok Sabha ( Another Blunder, its 250 in Rajya Sabha actually)
P1 P2 P3 look at each other signaling that the interview is over
P1(With a big grin) : So how many calls?
M(smiles): Just Indore sir.
P1: All the best and Thank you. Your work for the day is over.
P2: Thank you and See you!
M: Thank you! It was a pleasure
What do I make of the “See you”? …see you at Indore or see you next year or simply nothing… Lets c!!!!
Realised later they asked nothing on Workex and no Maths questions too.... Just Acads, Form and Hobbies
With a few I don’t knows and two blunders, overall a decent experience.

Here is my full description of GDPI.

My background- BSc(electronics) 63% , CAT- 97.75% Di- 99.22, Va- 93, Qnt- 88. Studying MBAin NIRMA

Hobbies- Photograhy and Trekking, lots of social actiites, and worked with NGOs.

Gd- The case was old one with CEO giving favour to the son of the CFO of sister company.
Our gd was cool with everyone comming with diff points, i started the gd with summering the case. I braught the gd on the right track two times. thats it.

PI- There were 17 of us out of 22. We were divided in a groups of 8 &9. There were three persons in a panels P1(L)A middle age prof. , P2(C) Old black bald prof. P3(R) Young guy.

M- I am from Pune
P3- For what Pune is known for?
M- Lots of thigs it is cultural Capital of Maha. , Education, IT , Near bombay advantage ... etc.

Please give me u r honest feedbacks. I really need it i do not want any type of illusion. They aked me nothing about my hobby though i had many awaed winning photographs pasted in the file. Many certis of social activity were there. He only spotted a small line on kabaddi and ignored boxing and marethon which i had prepared. I do not know what to evealuate out of this. Please help guys.
