hii guyz... just back from interview at IIM-C campus.. 10
profile : engineer (fresher)
cat perc: 99.85

batch of 10 guyz..... gd topic : for sustainable growth india should focus on manufacturing... i started for the first time in my life... started well.. chipped in with few other points later..... overall little above average performance... we were asked to summarise later for a minute... dint summarise too well though...

interview i was last... but i told them tat i hav to leave for delhi so if they cld take my interview a bit earler.. they said dont worry we wld finish it by 1 for everyone... so i said ok.
i was relaxin in lounge when ths panel called me at 4th spot for an interview tat as they felt tat they were runnin late on schedule... was kinda surprised..

3 prof p1, p2 and p3 and me m

p2: take a seat
m: thank u
p2: why all of u are wearin tie...
m: it looks good
p2: but none of us are wearing... coachin???
m: yes from erudite
p2: why?
m: gav e avague explanation
p1: tat means those who do coachin only clears...
m: i dint mean that... but it helps in motivation as environment is very competitive... anywayz thanks sir for callin me early.....
p3: u r an engineer.... what all u studied
m: told.....
p3: explain gsm...
m: told..
p2: u conduct ur intevriew
m: i mean... what..
p2: try conductin ur interview...
m: like tell us abt urself...
p2: yes... tats how u guyz are coached...
m: i started ... and told few lines
p2: what is derivatives?( my hobby stock market)
m: explain
p2: ask few more questions on derivatives...
p2: who is sonu nigam...
m: singer.. indian music. etc
p2: ok.. what do u think abt indian idol...
m: it was good but dint like the concept abt selectin and rejectin last 10 canditates...
p2: what are the consequences on indian idol...( what should i say)
m: told few lines ou tof nowhere...
p2: u havnt written much in form... what do u do in fre time...
m: read books on stock market... and play badminton which i mentioned in my form as i got some prize...
p2: anythin in hindi literature... etc...
m: no sir..
p1: what course on mathematics...
m: told him abt statistics.. probability..
p1: what is conditional probabilty
m: simple...
p1: what is differnce between matrix and determinant...
m: told difference abt applications...
p1: give a example:
m: determinant in solvin linear euations and matrices in competer programmin in 3d graphics etc
p2: my prob of solvin a problem is 1/2 and my friends is 2/3 ... what is the probability we could solve the problem...
m: simple..... but took the long way instead of simply subtractin not siolvin probabilty from 1
p2: whats the answer...
m: 5/6
p1: ok very basic question... we say that a number is divisible by 3 if sum of its digit are divisible by 3... can u prove that...
m: can i think...
p2: yeah sure write and do it...
m: cld find the prove in 10 seconds and explain them .. basically took an example of xyz=100x + 10y + z.. now if we divide rhs terms individually by 3 we get individual rememnder as x.v and z so if a number has to be divisible by 3.. it must be divisible by sum of x, y and z... and same goes for any 4 digit or big digit numbers,,,
p2: convinced and added yeah basically u r tellin xyz = 99x + x + 9y +y +z
m: yes sir
p1: do u remmebeer 0 and 1 problem in atm paper yesterday..
m: yes.. got the answer
p1: by guess ???
m: no sir... solved that...
p1: explain...
m: explained...
p1: convinced..
p1: ok chek ur certificates and u may leave...
m: cheked and left...
p1, p2 and p3: thank you
m: thank you sirs

dont know how to interpret this interview... too chill a interview... nothin specific ..... how wld they judge... 2 out of 3 before me had nice interviews.... lasted for 18-20 mins... gut feelin is good .. specially the last part i.e quant part...
guzy wht do u think..... leavin fro fMS tonite... gotta pack.....
byeee

Bangalore chips in with data - 14-03-2005, 04:55 PM

Hi Guys!

Had my interview at IIMB for IIM C today. Yesterday was spent taking the ATM and then mulling over the ooohh-I-knew-that-question feeling. Anyway, .. that's done. So there.

As you all are aware : There are 4 panels for GD PI.
GD: 30 minutes total . 3 minutes to think about topic (can be lesser also). Some time to discuss (about 15-20 minutes) and then every person has to speak on the topic for 1 minute(can be summary OR anything you feel like as long as it is on the topic).

GD Topic : There are no facts, only interpretations.

Interview: A very very calm affair with NO technical here too ! While that was a pleasure but I guess we must remember that in interviews like this, it becomes tough to judge performance because there is no metric as such.
But you can be assured that the panel will start with something like Tell me about yourself and then move on to general stuff from there.
For me it was abt my company and my school.

That's it!

Couldn't quite believe it myself!

Anyway, .. it's done. So looking fwd to Lucknow next.
All the best yaaro'n !
Que Sera Sera.

Wokay.... Seems like the first post from Delhi

Today afternoon 2 PM IMI New Delhi

Profile :
CAT 99.82
Final year Electronics & Communiations Engg. from the Delhi College of Engineering

***

There were 4 panels. Our panel had 10 + 1 ppl (the one guy had the morning slot but gave it with us as he had got his Lko iview in the morning)

GD Topic : Women activists are spoiling/hampering the cause of women

Pretty OK GD... There was a lot of decibel power... In fact there was an occasion when there was a one to one b/w two ppl in the grp (guy and a girl) - argiung heatedly for and against the topic. Overall, it was OK...

Topic in the morning : "Cats and Dogs"

The PI was pretty arbit. PPl before me and in the morning were asked maths (perhaps due to the pgdcm thingie). But in my case, no maths, no acads... zilch...nada..

It began with the violin and carnatic music.... one of the profs had extensive knowledge of Hindustani..... I was grilled for abt 5-8 mins on ragas, talas, srutis, diff b/w hindustani and carnatic, thyagaraja, dikshithar, ms subbalakshmi... famous violinists etc... He even went into western classical notation... was able to hold up my end for a lil while before I gave up, professsing that I did not have too much knowledge abt the western notations. That ended there...

Was expecting some tech... the other guy started with my school and college marks (Asked the class rank) and abt my projects (esp BTech)... started explaining it .... he cut me short by asking me why I did not want to constinue in the Engg field with these marks etc.... Then started the global gyan.... Went on for 10 mins.

By this time, one of the guy had enough ... told me he was hearing "nebulous" (nice new euphemism for farting ) language from the morning and wanted me to be direct... Thence on I took the Vishy route to answer the quesations....where do you see yourself 10 yrs/15 yrs from now.... what is thought leadership.... who is a management guru etc..

By then, these guys had enough of me and decided to chuck me out. I was bewildered that there was nothin from tech/maths.... They asked me to decide which insti I would join if I converted all my calls and why...

That was the end of the Calcutta sojourn. all the best for the rest of you!

Cheers,
Prasanna

PS : Added : There was also 3-4 min discussion about DCE, its affiliation with DU. DCE and its sister concern NSIT... whether I gave the JEE or not etc. Simble chit chat

supervishThe first batch at Bombay today. Most of us had taken the pgdcm test yesterday. 3 panels, 10 students each.

GD : Can India compete with China or some such. Usual ideas, stuck pretty much to the manufacturing sector... till someone brought up agri right at the end. Pretty thanda GD, people were waiting for others to finish... hardly eny "please lemme finish" stuff.

Me in final year Electrical Engineering, Mumbai Univ.

Hey vish, I am from elec. emgg too. Please give details of elec related questions that u got!

Venue: IMI Delhi
Time : 2 PM
Background : Fresher, IIIT Allahabad
X=89%, XII=92%, BTech=8.47/10
CAT= 99.53 (99.3 93.6 98.7) Calls=ABCKI
Procedure: 10-11 people in each group. 5 panels! 2-3 mins reading time... 10-15 minutes discussion... 1 min to each towards the end, use it the way u like!!!

GD Topic: Women activists are spoiling the cause of women!!!
Many known faces in my group (including prasanna), guess it was a tough call... My performance in GD... well dont remember a worse one! Spoke just once!

Interview: Was the last one in my group (No 10) so my turn came around 5.15 Interview lasted around 20 mins... Panel repeated some questions like differentiate x^x and x! Usual questions like introduce urself, sell urself, why to select u and why mba were in abundance!

My interview was okish... Panel didn't expect much from me after the gd, so it was kind of easy. Two questions i couldn't answer were about raja agrasen (my surname is agarwal) and mandal commision. Discussed UP, caste politics, NDA etc... No tech question expect one on numerical computation of area. No maths! There were somethings about PGDCM and my low quant % Asked my calls, and how many interviews i've finished... Overall pretty hopeless i'll say!!! Panel was cool, offered me some pakoris and half the time they'r talking among themselves...

All the best to rest of u!

ps.
somebody once said, its difficult to screw up with more than 4 calls... I guess, im just one step far from it...
