Weightage to GD & PI - 09-03-2005, 02:24 PM

Hi all,

In the wake of so many good and not-so-good interview experiences,I would like to post few queries to the group.

1.What is the approx weightage allotted to GD & PI in candidate selection?
2.Is this weightage the same across all IIMs?
3.Out of 1.5 lacs candidates, only 1000 were called...How many will qualify for the final list at different IIMs?

If these queries have been posted earlier, please pardon me!

Thanks,

MD

1. well, my guess would be that CAT score matters the most, but of course, that is just my guess.

2. each IIM is believed to have its own criteria for selection, probably even varies from year to year. all said, i think that if you have a decent CAT score, and you can exhibit the ability to think in a structured manner, you can skate-board your way in

3. IIMA has 250 seats for PGP.. will have to check about the rest...

mad.

He meant 1000 by each IIM!
Total number of calls (by all IIMs) could be around 3000 (taking into account multiple calls)

IIMs A B & C give ou calls in the ratio 1:3. I presume the others also follow the suit which means that there will be about 700 calls per IIM. With multiple calls, I think the number will be at 2400.

These numbers were quoted by my coaching institute. I hope they are authentic

Evanescence.

P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong, A & C have about 230 seats don't they?

Boss to correct u.... IIM B has issued calls in the ratio of 1:4.... they have some 260 seats.. and called around 1040 ppl... And i think this is the bare minimum every IIM or non IIM follows....

hmmm...jus another perspective at it, 1:4 meaning for every 1 one guy who gets in 4 guys are chucked out?

if so, then, me thinks the conversion ratio is 1:3 with the number of calls and converts as specified in ur post..

that'd be 260 final calls and 780 rejects, meaning for every 1 guy who gets in, 3 guys are chucked out... meaning also that your real competition is to annihilate those 3 other buggers in ur GD...:P j/k...

also the overall ratio for all of the IIMs paints a very nice picture....Evanescence's 2400 calls is a damn good figure..wich is quoted by each n every coaching insti..:P so taking that into account and the fact that the 6 IIMs have around 1200-1300 seats overall....it gives us a 1:1 ratio for converts:rejects... nice innit? so if u've got 6 calls u bluddy better be converting atleast one...:P

gd pi - 10-03-2005, 06:13 PM

was @ iimb at 2 pm.
9 people in my batch.
topic was a very vague case with a lot of data.
basically abt a guy owning a mfg. unit who has to decide about the future.
our gd was very close to a fishmarket, mainly because of 2 guys who wanted to shout all the time.
never reached a definitive conclusion, and we had suggested 4-5 alternatives.

TIP: in case this happens in your gd, DO NOT try to shut them up, it only stokes their loudness. Wait for them to finish, unless they go on and on.

interview was abt my workex (5 yrs), and my hobbies( reading books)
something about my company and its background, and i was out in 20 minutes.
the longest interview i saw was 40 minutes, 25-30 was the average.

for people who want to know, my percentile is 99.94 and i've done engg. from a local college.

As Stringrae said, I think for every one guy who gets selected, three are rejected.

All said, this speculation doesn't help anyone though it sure is a good way to kill time. (I seem to be doing more of this as the D-Day nears. )

Let us do well and hope to be in the top 200. I know it sounds ridiculously simple but when we start thinking about conversion ratios then we wind up with too many doubts.

Just consider this... Of the 1.4 lac ppl who took CAT and we made it to top 1.5k... WOW! Thats about 1:90 man. We gotta back ourselves to convert at least one.

ATB fellas.

Evanescence.
