That thread is more for the online collection of news and affairs.

Through this thread i only want to know about what other people are regularly reading ( newpaper/ magazines) for the preparation CAT-2005 and other MBA exams.

arre bhai log hindu is the best paper contentwise and fronline again the best mag...hindu's letters to edit ate very good...edits are also good but you have to form your own opinions and not outline someoen else's opinion like happens in the edits....

yo can always read india today and outlook for fun...not much content really....

Magazines and Newspapers - 24-02-2005, 02:41 PM

Hi Guys

In view of the shortcomings I had, I would sugges you the following:

[1] Buy one regular newspaper (TOI, HT, Hindu, Statesman or any one based on where you stay. It doesnt'r make any difference)

[2] Buy one Economic / FInancial Daily (ET/FE/BL, here too it doesn;t matter which one your buy)

[3] Another must subscribe is one of the business journals BI, BW or BT. As BW happens to be a weekly pl go for it.

Buying the above magazines / journals is easy. What is important for you is please read from the first page to last page, especially major stories and editorials.

I would also suggest an excellent volume on Indian Exonomics (about 500 pages) publisxhed by Chand & Co. and read it several times before the exams.

If you can manage to do the above (A) your vocabulary and RC will multiply manifold (B) Your GK/ Awareness levels will be very high for those exams where GK section is there (C) You will be able to perform exceedingly well in GD irrespecitve of any topic. and (D) youi will have so much to say during PIs to impress the panel.

But friends it is not that easy to read business magazines and journals as you will not understand the abc of it initially. All you need is about 3 months to start appreciating and enjoying.

Mark my word friends, if you can start enjoying reading them you will gradually even become an addict and it will be of great use to you in your career too.

READING IMPROVES KNOWLEGDE
KNOWLEDGE LEADS TO AWARENESS
AWARENESS RESULTS IN CONFIDENCE
CONFIDENCE IS THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

Another strategy is to form a small dedicated group of 5-6 aspirants (don't assemble more than 6) and have weekly meetings discussing on events, happenings - If you have 40-45 such sessions in the next 50 weeks, your GD will be a cakewalk.

All the best to the aspirants of 2005 entrance exams. Where I failed others should succeed.

Karthik

Thanks a lot for your post Karthik. Really helped.
I have a subscribed for ET from my newspaperwalla. Every morning he throws a rolled one on my balcony which I religiously take inside and keep. I have so many rolled ones you won't believe it. Everyday I think I'm just wasting 130Rs. every month.
But now I intend to seriously start reading them starting next morning. But max I can spare is maybe 1 hour, I don't know how much I can read in such a short time.

Anyways, thanks for he post man....

cheers,
Googz
