hi nitesh
yu are right to an extent about the TOI. if yu wanna go through the editorials i'll say try to go through HINDU. i find two things particularly good about the hindu editorials.
some are crux and boring but arent some of CATs RC passage like that too.
and secondly the articles cover a lot of varied topics.
bye

hi nitesh,
see i myself dont folli\ow any particular book on RC. well i guess the main obstackle yu face must be the rading speed. well there were some methods to improve on it given in a book

" BASIC MANAGERIAL SKILL FOR ALL" by T.J. McGRATH
yu can see that book. the first chapter is on reading. and next problem must be the passages. reading on a variety of topics can make most of passage less alien to your tastes.

Red face Reading speed and comprehending it - 18-05-2005, 10:25 AM

hi,
anu here. I appeared for CAT last yr but never got a good score so appearing again this year. Statesman articles are good and so are ET ones for increasing speed and accuracy..
However I am looking out for people from kolkata who are really serious abt cracking CAT this time.
I had joined TIME last yr but not much help so planning to join Erudite crash course...Also i am really weak in DI and want to improve upon it which actually pulled down my scores..
Any feedbacks would really be helpful..

Preparing for CAT i feel should not be taken in the same way we did for Engg. Infact, make CAT a way of life. When was it nitesh that we used to read Newspaper at 7am and Sleep at 2am reading Some Fountainhead Business Review.....see this is making us more learned people and learned and well aware people are always in demand.

Coming to the strategy part,

1.CAT prep, unlike all other preps consists of
a.Events
b.Processes

An event is something which does not take much time . as an example.. If u were to take up Compound Intrest/Alligation how much time would you take?? 1 day or max 2. Events consist of topics like Quant,LogicalReasoning,DS etc unlike

Processes which take a lot of time to develop. eg. Faster Calculations, Reading Speed Building, and comprehending better at the same time. You cannot learn vocab overnight ,,,,,these are things which distinguish wheat from chaff. Start Reading newspapers -I read ET and Hindu for last 2 years., Learn 30 new words from Barrons everyday( make flash cards).

with this mindset by September you would be pretty comfortable with ur CAT prep. Also join a good coaching institute which gives you an idea of ur standing through mock CAT etc

A good reading list would be(only suggesting you)
1.FountainHead Ayn Rand
2.Sigmund Freud series
3.Mahabharata
4.Bhagwad gita
5.Made in Japan Akio Morita

I started preparing for CAT in 1st year itself as i had my fundas clear and what i worked on were the Processes and Not Event so now pretty comf with my prep.
All the best
Hi Sahin

That was good methodolgy u descriped certainly one needs do the ground work and simoultaneously work effectively to sharpen the skills
