Just saw a discussion about Reading speeds... Well I know of a person whose reading speed is in excess of 1200 wpm. He was able to complete the whole English section of CAT 04 in about 20 minutes time with a stupendous accuracy of 95+%. I have seen this person do the book on Wodehouse in less than an hour and a half. If you talk about memory and retention .. well his is better than that of anyone I know personally. Now for some good news ... This guy is not giving CAT. Not his cup of tea. Not what he wants to do in life. It depends guys ... There are guys who are voracious readers from childhood and for them it is cakewalk. So stop ridiculing everyone with speeds like this and accept that there are people who are gifted. Everyone is ... it is only the field that varies...

He was looking anxious and worried, like a man who has done the murder all right but can't think what the deuce to do with the body.

Well you could look into some books by Bertrand Russel. They may also be boring but it is better to get acclimitised to the variour fields because you would never know what they will throw at you in the passages in CAT.

NOW LET US COME BACK AND DISCUSS WHAT WE HAVE TOOOOOO
we have a long time to go for cat and let us make the best use of it

You made me remember one of my fav topics in Educational Psychology.."Gifted and tallented students" Well unfortunately these students are usualy misunderstood by others..etc .... would preferably post something on the same in my blog soon. And interestingly research work on the same indictes that gifted and tallented students are very sensitive to the needs and demands of people they interact with and thus get hurt easily as well. Girls who are gifted even at times undergo phases of depression....

Coming back to reading speed..the more one reads the faster becomes the reading speed......and because of the varied kinds of passages one can get in CAT always better to read topics from varied subjects..esp the books or topics one finds boring ......

take care

hi coolpc,

vedic maths is xtremely helpful. but, it requires a lot of practice. keep on using it. just make a habit of calculating a'thing & e'thing u see. for example, whenever i watch cricket, i keep on calculating the run rate. after some time, u start loving it. it was because of this that DI was my fav section in CAT.

u can really score big in DI. and also practice Data Sufficiency a lot. these questions look deceptively simple. so, one might actually end up getting -ve scores.

ATB & do ask me in case u require any further help,
atul.

where do i find the material.... - 06-04-2005, 10:00 AM

hi pooza,

i agree with you that one shud read on various topics....
i have been trying to indulge myself in reading...
and have stared with reading newspapers in more depth and stuff like that..

but i am not able to read on variety of topic...so if you cud suggest some books/websites on various topics like religion, physcology, philosophy, arts etc etc.... it will be great...

and also, what does one has to concentrate on while reading newspapers?? i mean do we have to read the complete newspaper?? if that is the case then reading two news papers (one general and one business) will take a lot of time... so it that people just read the editorials and then just concentrate on few headlines?? please help me..am pretty confused about this newspaper thing....

take care
