Please suggest some books to improve my speed in quants.

How is the book being promoted by Time institute on its site.
I dont remember the name , but it is 550 pages.

PS, I tried Abhijit guha and found it to be too formula heavy.

Has anyone tried Jagdip Vaishnav.
What is the experts; opinion on this book

Hey frens,
I want to know if any one has joined the CAT coaching in bangalore.
As I want to make clear if the study material has been revised or is the same old stuff. So that I can make out whether it's worth joining or not.
Suggestions welcome.

Hi Nitesh,

Reading editorials ids good for reading speed and vocab we don't get to fathom our comprehension.

Moreover, I think that editorials are important from the point of view of GD/ PI and so we cannot skim through them as we would do with a RC passage, which is important only from the point of view of answering questions.

So what I do is read newpaper editorials sincerely. ET and TOI editorials are often good where as I find Hindu editorials often too general. For RC, I have collected material of different institutes and I daily solve one RC passage in pure RC style - go thru questions first, skim thorugh the passage quickly to figure out the sections which possibly have the answers, get back to questions again and start answering, referring back to the marked sections as and when required. And this has helped my confidence a heluva lot!

Hope this works for you.

Bye.

now CAT-2005 aspirants
this is ur thread but moi already gav CAT n hell of a lot of other exams and wat keviv said thoda galat laga isliye gyan dene aaya hoon ....Now redaing ques first and then going thru passages is fine but that tech works only where there r direct ques like in our 10 std cbse board paper--buddy but this is diff--most of the passages u will find in this years papers--i gave cat n xat n fms----were not direct type at all--firstly the passages(particularly xat) were wat shud i say--weird n the questions man even if u had read them earlier wud not hav made any differnce---so tis strategm of reading ques first can backfire....Trust me moi strategy(and it is quite a succesful one) is like this :-i go thru the ques at a zip--i dunno read them but if i see no ques of th e type what does this word"xxxxx" mean inthe passage and another like which of the folowing were not mentioned in the passage or which year this took place i.e. staright data kinda of ques i go and read the RC first and then tackle the ques majority of which r like--
which of the following wud the author most agre/disagree with --u know they require reading of the whole passage....or summary title tone kingd of ques..
so reading ques first is not da PURE rc approach----
but remember in the end do wat u are comnfortable with best--judge ur performance by the mocks and improve upon it----trust i hav seen many of my engg frens whose major downfall was RC and that was it.....

Question 14-02-2005, 10:23 PM

Hey PGs ... I'm Ramya.,

Needn't we read on diverse topics from now so that we can have an idea abt evreything related to our subject n current affairs too...saw the GD n PI experience of Hanoz?whew so technical n that sort of ans reqd to get into such schools...

so v ppl better decide soon abt the regular schedule v need to adopt covering all the areas connected with CAT and prepare regularly...just working on the rc alone at this point will not be enough..

Hi frens - 21-02-2005, 02:17 PM

Tnx a lot for suggesting me abt the RC solving strategy. But what abt the sources that can build your vocabs.
I think just going thru the editorials are not enough, we need some type of strategy and sources that can imrove your speed and vocabs as well.
If any of you know some sources of study on the internet just put a hand on it and inform us.
