wrong marks - help needed... - 14-01-2005, 05:19 PM

Hi All,

I have a 99.92 percentile in CAT 2004 and calls from 5 IIMs...

While I was filling up the IIM-A form, i noticed that while filling up the class 10th & 12th percentage, you have to take into account all the subjects, that you appeared in.

But unfortunately, my school (in meerut) used to take into account only best 4 out of 5... I was habitual of same - stating my best 4 percentage i.e 84% instead of all 5 i.e. 79% everywhere...

And I accidently filled up my best 4 percentage in CAT form..

I know this is a blunder on my part... But can somebody please help me out? What shud i do now? What can be done?
Can somebody confirm the same, with the authorities?

Any help will be welcome..
Thanks...

I recommend calling them up and asking them what to do... coz this would get serious, I am sure they'll spot it immediately during the interview and you'll get screwed then...
... My opinion... Use your own mind before acting...

All the Best, you'll need luck...

I thought that I thought, therefore I was, but then I thought that had I not thought, would I be not? Then I realized, I think BECAUSE I am.

Your certificates will be verified only once you join the course..however in case of any discrepancy you will be immediately chucked out ...
The best solution is to explain it during the interview..and I have a feeling that some of the IIM's are very particular about your academic track-record...its a tricky situtation you have landed your self in...

sahi panga ho gaya......neways i think u shud act quickly and wisely.just shoot off a snail mail to a ppl apologise and ask wat to do next.if that doesnt work out then land up at A and do dharna over there(not literally).just ask for one chance to chg the marks back to correct coz if u'll leave it for the interview time.....i dunoo i feel it'll be a risky situation....some ppl are very finicky bout marks and stuff......and then u might spend gud 3/4th of ur interview clarifying the mistake u commited.and then u know wat'll happen afterwards.so i think its better to solve the prob bfore the interview....u still have plenty of time to think bout it.arrey man think wat a true CEO will do in such a situation......

adios

Frankly, you deserve a kick up your a$$ for being so careless. Lets leave that for now.

What you should do is write a mail explaining your mistake and send it off asap to the concerned IIMs. It will help if your marks-card says 84% and not 79%. My SSLC(Karnataka state X std) marks-card says 87% because thats the average of my 5 best subject marks, though the actual average(as expected in the CAF) is 86%. That kinda thing will def make your life easy when you explain to the ppl concerned.

I hate to say this, and hope I am wrong, but I have the feeling that this kind of thing could blow up in your face big-time. Only good thing I see here is that inspite of getting 84% in school(as you have entered it), you have got calls from the IIMs. This must mean that your other marks(tewlfth std, graduate/post graduate) must be pretty good. Hopefully things do work out for you.

Send your mail asap and show your honesty and make a good impression. Best of luck!

chill out

u have to consider "all the papers only for ur graduation and pg exams"

u dont need to worry as long as u have a certi from somewhere stating that u got 84% (best 4 or 5 does not matter)

just be confident

dont show that it is a mistake...(although it is)

this will come up most probaly during the interview just explain it at that time...

hey,
whatever is done is done.
if the mistake may hurt you then be ready to face it but plz dont hesitate to contact the pgp admission offices now. dont wait for the interview as the two guys there are just to interview you and in all probablity be least bothered to get into any such beaureaucratic procedures.

what i suggest :
1) Fax all IIMs your mark sheet along with a letter from your school stating the procedure they use to compute students percentage.

2) Call the admission committee and let them know of your fax.

3)Be the first one to tell the interview panel about your mistake and substantiate it with the copies that you have faxed along with the recipte(phone bills you get when you fax any document).

this will greatly help the interview panel to concentarte on you rather than getting into any other thoughts. The rest has to be decidec by the admission committee over which you have not much control..
just hurry up now and do the needful.

mohit

I think you have committed a gross error. It can be misunderstood as trying to show wrong marks, by acting innocent and ignorant. You should address this problem immediately rather than waiting for PI's , since by then it'll be tooo late for anyone to believe you.
