SP Jain Experience - 14-02-2005, 05:08 PM

Hi Folks,
Here goes my SP Jain expereince ...

Profile:
Acads: Good ... X and XII Merit Ranks, BE Comp Sci
Work Ex: 17 months at Infy
Extra Currics: Good

Pre Interview:

Landed at SP at 8:00 am sharp for the 8:30 batch. Was made to sit in a huge hall (they call it dome!) and register.

After tht the entire 8:30 batch (of abt 21 ppl) was split into groups of 6. Some from 9:30 were also incl.

I was in one of the last batches to go for the int.

GI 1:

Panel: 2 SP Profs (Fin and Eco)
My Group: 6 ppl ... 1 fresher .. others work ex (2 IM, 1 mktg, 1 Fin others dont remember)

The panel was quite friendly. Questions were based on the form and were stretched from there. for eg one guy said he wanted to do social service and was grilled on tht as to what is stopping you now etc etc.

my turn came after 55 mins ....

fin prof to me: you must be wondering when we will ask you something ...
i just smiled and nodded

eco prof: you have mentioned your strength as l'ship ... why so?
told him. then the discussion more or less centred around tht ... for about 3-4 mins and thats it!!!!! they said thank you!!!! i was zapped!!!!!

Results announced: 2 ppl shortlisted ... me and the other a lady with work ex from citi fin and spec finance ....

MAT: more or less similar to what others have described

GI2:
put into another group with 4 other ppl ... all seemed fundooo
panel far more younger than the previous one ... with a touch of sophistication ... seemed like a mini ragging session.

started with the intros highlighted our strengths etc.

then they said they would give us 2 topics and we had to choose one and give our viewpoints on the same.

1. birla lodha issue
2. alliance capital issue

everyone chose birla lodha ... discussed it for quite some time ... was not a gd ... included a lot of interruption and cross questioning by the panel .... finally we moved on from the birla lodha issue.

then one person was asked about an incident he wrote in the form abt a fellow batchmate getting suspended .... he tended to ramble and was told on a couple of occasions to speed up ...

others were asked what they would have done differently if in a similar situation ... so u have to be listenign at all times ...

then the panel asked me about my extra currics and social work ... tried to grill me saying all this sounds as if it was compulsory ... defended it with valid reasons ....
and then they closed the interview ... quite suddenly tht too...

Online Test: 4 out of 5 were asked to take the online test ... pretty straightforward though tiring since 6 hrs had elapsed by now .... took the test and left at 2:30

hoping for a favourable result! all the best fellow PGites ....

-V

Well ...a lil insight into My GI Process on 12th Feb:

Reach the campus early morning xpecting to be the first one to be around but had other dudes to keep me company....anyways i'll cut right to the chase:

1st round: 3 Mktg ( me , a fresher n a 3 yr Workex guy) , 2 IM , 1 Fin
The usual round of intros, put ur views on "Media's role in promoting consumerism" ......then questions to all....ex :compare ur previous org n the present one, relate an interesting incident while u were holidaying....differences b/w small town n big town ....role model etc...etc

Shortlist out: The IM chaps, fin guy n me (mktg) made it thru (thats when i felt that the trip was worth it )

Mat test.....the usual.....

2nd Round : 2 Mktg , 2 IM , 1 Fin .....the dreaded brigadier was in there....we start off with the intros, then why Spj , was the govt right in interefring with the IIM admission process, how do you define "quality" in education, then brig starts his rapid fire : ur temparent while working, have u come accross a difficult personality, wat r ur long term goals n how do u plan to achieve then, corruption india.....etc...etc....

Online Psychometric test for all of us.....

so it did take about 6 strenous hours to get thru the whole thing....

best of luck to others....

When in doubt turn right

Abhijit here, I have 2 years of work ex in IT/Telecom

The Purpose was to know each other even before we land up on the D-day, so we are already 4 members here, myself, sanks, ajain, and you

So lets strategise

strategizing wudnot help a lot as it depends a lot on how u r on that particular day and more imporatantly how is the mood of the interview wala ...yes but we can know each other....and hopefully we all sail thru...

Hi,

Have you checked up if you have ur interview dates schedules on the website? Try keying in ur CAT number and the S P Jain form number, if it says " your interview is already scheduled for..." It means you're in. You dont have to show them any e-mail confirmation on D-day, They'll have a list of your names which you will have to sign thats all.
All the best to you and everyone else, And yes, if possible do get some latest info on when the results can be expected.
Thanks and Regards.

Aarthi

Agree with ajain - 15-02-2005, 05:10 PM

I agree with ajain said
It will depend a lot on the interview panel that day
But we should be prepared for any kind of surprises

Hope we all make it to the final stage

So all the best , lets rock

Bye Bye

hey mbabuster,
chill man... u have already done ur best... how does it matter if there are 400 final calls or 200... wht each one of us require is just one seat... either v'll make it or v won't... collecting data won't solve any purpose now...
Just keep ur calm n wait for 1st week of march...

One of the qualities of a gud mgr is to keep restraint & maintain cool under stressful conditions... tis itme to display those...

Now coming to ur Q : my observation is that SP is selecting 40-50% of students for GI2 & 50% of these GI2 attendees will b sent final calls... So, if ur data is correct i.e., 1500 calls for GI1... ther wud be arnd 350 calls for ~150-160 seats... However, all this analysis is based on a a BIG BIG assumption i.e., "It's My Observation"...
