hi Guys,
I am back to hyd and my work place after a loooooong gap......had gone on a vacation and then came back after attending the SP GI on 6th....so surfing the forum after a break of 14 days.........

the initial zatka was the FMS result...didn't make it to FMS...i guess my speed took a toll
then read thru the posts here.................i must say Jai was impressive (bhai tum to Sholay ke Jai nikle

)
Now, my experience with SP:
6th Feb 8:30 am slot
Reached SP campus at 8 am , met 6 other guys waiting there and the caretakers cleaning the place

....asked them the route to the canteen/mess so that we can grab a bite (was feeling damn hungry)...
as soon as we enter the mess, one of the guys remarks...'yaar isko dekh kar to apne college ke mess ki yaad aa gayee'

i take a plate of idlis....
back to the place of action at 8:10......first sign of people in charge at 8:20...
we are seated in the IM class at SP (1st floor) and asked to register ourselves..........we were offered just cold mineral water (one of the guys was saying we might be offered breakfast....but hard luck mate

)
while registering u r not asked for any id etc....they match ur face with the photograph on the form...so , in case u have altered ur facial appearance too much...like a tonsured head, then carry a proof of identity and a recent photo)
at about 9 we are divided into groups of 6 ppl each.....i am clubbed in the 3rd group with another 'Ritesh' and the group has 6 guys (no gals- i consider that lucky since a charming lady might cast her spell on the interview panel).....all the guys are working in IT and all the guys i met in IM classroom were 2003 passouts and almost all engg......i guess the reason for most of them being engg in IT field can be that 8:30 slot is given to ppl who were the first to register for a date and ppl who have ready online access are generally the ones working in IT companies......
anyways, so we have 6 guys who have approx 2 yrs work X in IT , are engg (though from diff fields) and 3 of them are working for oracle (including yours truly)....the specializations are 2 for Markeing, 2 for IM and 2 for (either operations for finance)...
we get called for the GIs in order...first group 1 then group 2 and so on....there are 4 panels for first round GIs operating simultaneously...
the GI panel has 2 profs- a lady and a gentleman (he's the vocal member) and a student (he's the mute spectator- no offense meant)....
first we are asked to introduce ourselves.....then the prof asks us to comment on one thing that makes us sad and one thing that makes us happy (this should be something apart from our personal/professional life)...opinions are taken on a FCFS basis.....(profs even interrupt ppl in bet when they are giving their opinions to ask them there names again)...
after everyone in the group is done, they start with 4-5 questions to each guy individually....these are on ur profile- hobbies, work and in my case by engg branch (no questions on hobbies or work for me

)....
there was one guy (Lakshmi for Oracle Consulting B'lore) who was asked a lot of questions on his hobby (writing poems), he even receited two poems and his other hobby- he's an administrator of wikipedia....so the more 'different' ur hobby is, more chances that u wld be asked abt it, and more chances that u wld carry it off (since ppl know less abt it)......
I wld say this guy was th best in the group
another guy whose hobby was to receite vedas was asked to receite a few shlokas.......
so , in short, u get the point..
after the GI, we go back to IM class room (nice class room btw

), and i find that we are the first group to have come back- group 1 and 2 are still having their GIs........
we get the info that group I is an elimination stage and consists of 1 GI...
Group 2 would be the final selection stage and would consist of a GI, MAT (written psychometric test) and online test.....
after about 15 mins results come out and from our group 3 guys are selected (the bizzarre- all 3 are from Oracle

).....
my opinion- the selection for first round isn't based solely on what u say in the GI....they are considering ur profile as well...otherwise we just can't explain a few rejections....
anyways, from group-1 4 guys are seletced, 3 from G-2 and 5 from G-4.......so one more point clear- there are no numbers for a group - it can even be all or none......
at 10:30 we are called for MAt and are given a ques paper with 50 + 5 + (all the ques on non-omr form minus the last 9 questions) and asked to write our answers in 55 mins straight....
this is a tough task for me

since i write pretty slow and have missed many a question in my exams uptil now due to this....i try my best but end up not being able to complete the last 2 questions in time- the guy there is very generous and gives me and another 'slow' person some extra time to complete the stuff......
we are back to the IM class...and here we are divided into groups for 2nd stage GI...i am in a new group, but hello, yet again there are 5 guys (no gals) all working in IT related fields (on guy is working in automation industry......electronics engg......working presently at Honeywell Pune....the name's Devendre)........and guess what 3 guys are working for Oracle Hyderabad

we go in to meet the panel- Prof. Mohan (SP guys can u please tell me what does this guy teach......) and a retd. Brigadier.
Two guys in the group have opted for marketing (including yours truely), and one each for Fin, Op and IM.....
we start with our intro and any whim/fancy that we have....
and then the inevitable question pops up- why the hell are there so many guys from oracle out here today ?

then each one of us is grilled mainly by the Brigadier on values.....in fact there's too much discussion on values...after everyone has been grilled systematically a few directed questions fly towards individuals for some 10 mins....and then that's it......
eveything's over by 1 pm, we troop back to our resting place -the IM class...all the guys in my group are exasperated with the grilling on values and are in a value-less mood
i feel the Op guy - Devender- was the best.....
then after about 10-15 mins we are told that from our group only Devender is supposed to go for the online test

rest of the guys are a worried lot and ghero the student who came with this news....and he assures us that this isn't the end of the road for us....his reply was 'there are certain parameters that i can't disclose based on which ppl are called for online test....this test is a sort of re-verification of ur MAt and if u r not called for it then don't worry- it's not an elimination).
results will be out by march first week....
so that's my story
me not in for fms....have mdi on 9th at b'lore....so guys wish e luck for SP and MDI and IIFT
yours
