My Exp@SPJIMR - 27-01-2005, 03:46 PM

ok... My time to pay back...

Date: 26th Jan
Scheduled Time: 11:30 AM

I reached there at 11:00 & got myself registered (you have to notify the student panel & they will crosscheck u with the photograph u have provided). There were around 100 students called for the interview.
After waiting for 3 hrs, my interview started at 2:00 PM.

Round1: GI1
Applicants: 3 OR, 2 IM (myself & a girl from TCS), 1 Fin (a girl from ICICI). ALL 2+ work ex
Prof: 1 Finance prof & Dr. Matoo

Started with the usual introduction by each one of us followed by Qs specific to one's form. The Qs were generic & all they wanted is candidate's opinion about some issue or liking s/he has shown.
This later moved on to the usual qs. Some were asked Why SP & others were asked Why MBA or Why U...

All in all the faculty panel was very coordial & pleasant. Everyone was asked about 3-4 Qs & the interview ended in ~40 mins. At the end i could sense that the panel was quite happy with our performance.

Round 2: Online Psycho test
This is the worst thing that cud happen to anyone... 56 Qs (each had around 6-7 lines) to be done in 60 mins. Testing the same trait thru diff situations. The best way & only way is to be the actual u without even thinking that u have come for an interview.

After this results were announced & 4 of us were selected (2 OR, 1 IM (myself) & 1 Fin girl)

Round 3: GI 2
we were joined by 1 guy for OR & 1 girl for Mkt.
The panel (2 prof & 1 from student's panel) was quite cool but more serious than the previous one. We were again asked to introduce ourself & then it proceeded with very very generic Qs & our opinions abt them. It appeared they were trying to test our attitude & approach (but this is just my opinion). This round was even shorter than GI1.
Whatever confidence i had gained after the 1st GI was lost after the 2nd GI. They didn't asked much to anyone of us . Just keeping my fingers crossed.

Also, the student panel really worked hard & was very friendly (met krishna, dinesh, abha). InCase u have any prob/query, directly approach them.

There are 2000 short listed candidates. Appx 1200 -1300 will go to the second round. Appx 160 will be given final calls. My guess.

missed u there (whts ur name?)... are u sure abt the 2000 calss.... wondering how will they have it in next ~10 interview sessions

No prizes for guessing tht the smone is me. Am concerned coz the kind of ppl posting msgs here seem to be at the other extreme with loads of exp, n much better percentiles.

Anyway, am gonna try n capitalise on my good fortune on 20th Feb.

Anyone on the same slot?

Cheers,

Thanks post2ashish, for posting your GI experience...
Can you explain a bit more about the psychometric test?
I had once given a psychometric test during campus placements and it was MCQ type. Here in SPJ, is it an MCQ type or are we supposed to write some answers (essay type)... Basically is it objective or subjective...?

hi.. I am Amit Shah. Time Andheri student.. whos u ?.. i met the same chaps too.. krishna for round 1, dinesh for general.., abha for round 2.. abhijit etc.. Same question in my mind.. when everybody answers equally well.. when no one is actually quizzed on anything.. how will they select.. some how I hv started feeling like a potato in the sabzi mandi !.. when a customer buys a potato. he just sees if it has some obvious "keeda".. otherwise he is just impassive abt the selected or not selected potatos !....

It's objective buddy... u will have 5 choices & u have to rank them from 1 to 5. However, SPJ seems to take care of everyone (i mean even those who prefer a subjective than an objective) there's another subjective psycho test (MAT) waiting after u have completed GI2...

Hello guys....

This had been the most dull day of this thread it seems . May be due to the euphoria over XAT and FMS results. Congrats to all those who got FMS calls. It might be 2 early to congratulate for a good %ile in XAT.

All the best to those who have their interviews today n tomorrow. But guys keep up the posts.

Any suggesions on how to handle the "bird" thing . I mean I can search the net and come up some real weird kinda bird species. But then they will know I have made it up . And moreover do they delve too much on this question ?

Cheers
SB
