I think there are 40 more seats in the second merit list and it would include people from all the specializations.
Is that because that adds up to 150 odd? Or do you have some reliable source who told you that? I think someone from SPJ could help. Neonic, dude where art thou?

if i opt for study leave i will have to come back to company after completion and then serve notice etc..

My opinion:
It would have been better if u've posted the name of ur company. But still ...
If ur not from a company to which ur very attached to, then resign. If ur not from a company where you are assured of great profile (that u really want to mature into) or fat salary after MBA, then resign.
If still ur not sure ... and the best way is to ... go ahead and take sabbatical leave ( I don't think any IT companies pay during that leave). Let one year go by in SPJ, before placement you'll be asked to resign from that company or opt out of placement. I suppose at that time you'll be in better postion to take decision.
There is absolutely no bond from company's side (I know of infy/tcs/wipro). They also don't pay anything during these two years. You'll be on sabbatical and not sponsored candidate. There is difference between the two.
Infact in SPJ lots of people have done the same ... many went back, few decided to leave IT and explore fmcg
