Suggestion For Moderators - 27-12-2004, 06:24 PM

Since in every 1 hr one redundant thread is popping on PG which is tedious for moderators ,
i will advice mod grp to post a messege on front page which is noticed by everyone everytime they login saying that plz search before posting blah blah .. otherwise the will be banned

popularity of PG is increasing so immensly that lots of new and unexperienced readers starts redundant thrd

it is very tough to keep track of threads too!
One should not be criticized for opening a redundant thread, but a new link should imeediately be given.
I know its tough, but it needs to be done to improve the site.

PeGGY

You guys need to help. Mik has been helping me a LOT with respect to locked threads and supplying newbies with information. Except for the rare newbie who decides to get on the nerves of everybody by refusing to read any of the instruction, its not been that bad

Please help out the newbies by supplying accurate links to threads with similar discussions. You can also PM the mod online who can then lock the alternate thread.

All of us were newbies once .. but some just refuse to read

Cheers,

Thanks Deepu and all the guys volunteering to help ........Will definetly help us a lot.

That said......if u guys are seeing a semblance of sanity returning to the forum...it's thanks to guys like MadMax, Mik, Supervish and Pendyal. They have been pming me and other mods with details of threads to be locked and not only that........they also take the trouble to search out the correct links and put them up on the thread .All I have to do is click the Lock thread button

Thanks guys

Cheers,

Wayne

Mods....
these orphan threads are becoming a real pain...
most of these are started by first timers...
can u guys do smthings like not letting newbies..(if it is possible to differentiate them) ..start threads...
or when they try to do so ..take them to a page that asks them to search for threads on the existing topic .... (some fundas abt using search faciltiy...posting etiquette..) etc... and give them an option that..even after this they feel it necessary then can start a thread...
save u guys a lot of truble ..i feel..
and i hv the same query as ajain has..isnt is possible to delete/erase these locked threads...???
andy.

kuch galat hoke rahega ..

A solution for redundant threads....

Can we give some value to the status that every one of us has, like 'Newbie' or 'CAT Expert'?

I mean starting some system where a newbie can not start a new thread, if s/he wants to do so, s/he will have to PM the moderators and then moderators can decide whether that thread should be started or should be directed to an existing thread. If moderators are too busy for this then can we form another team of may be Sub-Moderators,who will volunteer for this job?

All others having status may be above CAT Expert can start new threads provided they abide with the rules and use the 'search option'.

This way a lot of trouble can be reduced and newbies will have to take some time on the forum b4 they can start flooding in with new threads...

some feature like "no posting powers for the first week" ought to help... those who are desperate to post could PM someone who is 1-week or older.

but then again it remains to be seen if ppl would indeed use that one week "internship" to learn something!
